I think if LFA is not equipped it could be because according to this white paper on automated vehicles: "In Canada, a national policy on automated or connected vehicles has not yet been developed" and LFA is considered LEVEL 2 or partial automation. Level 2 tech can manage both your speed and steering. Whereas LKA is LEVEL 1 - automation with driver assistance. LEVEL 1 uses just steering to keep it within the lines of the road.

So if they are not including it, the reasoning would be more for legal reasons than anything else.

here is the white paper:

This would be a shame. What an incredible feature. From the videos I’ve watched online, it seems they everyone loves it. It’s like Tesla’s Autopilot but apparently only bugs you to touch the wheel every minute as opposed to just a few seconds in the Tesla. If it has to do with law, then how did Tesla skirt around it?

I was reading through the owner's manual on the Hyundai Canada site, and in the manual it talks about LFA but uses the terms "if equipped" when mentioning it. Like I said one member who got delivery in Vancouver this week says it isn't there, but I know when watching videos of UK drivers it seems buried in the system when they are turning things on. So a tech savvy new owner would be needed for us to know for sure.

Yea, it definitely seems buried in a menue and not something right out in the open. I can’t wait to have a closer look at it. Hopefully it’s software and not hardware that is “not equipped”

If it does have anything to do with the current Canadian Laws then I guess it would depend on each car company and how much faith they have in their systems, along with how much risk they would take with liability issues once the tech is in widespread use. Didn't Tesla tone down their automation in one of their OTA updates? not sure

Got a call from my dealer today that the car is ready to pick up. I tried to get an understanding of Lane Following Assist but my dealer says it supports LKA. I just read the manual and LFA is deeply connected to LKA so it might be there. I'm planning to pick it up on Monday, so I will be able to say for sure.

Wow, you possess patience of a God.
If my dealer called me today saying my car was ready for pickup, I’d run out of work faster than you could imagine lol!
I’d want to play with it over the weekend!

Yes, this is what people in Europe are referring to. I don’t think it’s a separate “button” per se - I think it’s inside a menu or system somewhere. One of us will have to check after playing around!

Just sat in an EV in Abbotsford. It actually is a button to select LFA and then a light comes on the dash indicating it is on. I’ll attach a pic. as well as pic of grey interior. It is the top button showing car between lines.

For those of you who received their VIN numbers, I found this gem of a site that decodes a whole bunch info from your vehicle. Just enter your VIN number in the search form... It also includes info on all the installed Active Safety Systems - and as predicted on this forum LFA is not listed there either.

This should make everything feel a little more real during the long delivery traverse across Canada. Here is the site:

This is pretty cool. My VIN shows up and properly identifies the vehicle but the tool reports my VIN has an error. (It doesn't like a zero)I hope that doesn't doom me to future delivery trouble.

I reached out to my dealer this morning in Burlington ON.
They have no VIN information yet and haven’t received a single delivery yet. Apparently there are 5 destined for this particular dealership.

Perhaps they’ve all be allocated to Quebec where the incentive lives?

My dealer called me in Toronto last week saying that my Kona was on the way, he asked me if I would still like to proceed as this would entail my $1000 deposit no longer being refundable. I said yes at the time but I feel that I may have to cancel this altogether as the cost just does not make sense to me anymore.

$62,000 is a lot of money, the most I have ever spent on a car is $21,000, there is no way in the world I could ever justify spending this money just to be ahead of the curve in the EV world. Just think about the financing on this vehicle!?

I think I will wait it out, perhaps prices will slowly drop and maybe our backwards thinking buffoon of a provincial premiere will wake up and realize that he has devastated the entire EV market in Ontario by cutting 100% of the rebate.

I would have loved to be driving the Kona EV, it looks to be a fantastic vehicle. I wish you all luck with your orders and deliveries and hope to see some of you on the road!!
