Source for motor & controller cover rubber grommets?

Frequenting this forum paid off for me AGAIN last night. I was at a friend's house showing him and his teenage son the SE for the first time. I removed the motor cover so that they could see the 'guts' of the EV. He used to work for DRÄXLMAIER, a BMW cabling supplier, so we spent some time finding all the BMW and DRAX logos on the EV motor cables. I had not actually noticed how many Beamer logos are in there before.

Because of this forum, I automatically checked my cover when I went to re-install it, and, sure enough, one of the rubber grommets had escaped its holding pen!! It was after dark, and I was parked nose-to-nose with his son's SUV, so he turned on his headlights, and we managed to track the grommet to where it fell inside the motor area. Whew! Knowing how long it would take to order a replacement part, I was sweating it for a minute there. But it ended well.

The engine cover should be perspex (UK name) clear plastic. We, and others, could take a lustful look at that gorgeous power plant anytime we wanted without disturbing those pesky grommits!

The engine cover should be perspex (UK name) clear plastic.

We usually call that "plexiglass". Or generically "clear acrylic".

I believe a clear cover would look grungy after a while, so I don't mind the easily removable gray (grey) cover. My wish is to have a diagram that identifies every part that can be seen under the bonnet. Even better would be the disassembly of a MINI Cooper SE by Professor John Kelly of Weber State University. His highly informative automotive YouTube videos are fabulous.

I ordered some correct spare grommets in anticipation of getting the car and showing off the power plant.

Stupid question - what is everyone's opinion on leaving the cover off - say when i drive to a cars and coffee for a day, or want to show it off at some other destination.

Any time I pull the cover off to show someone, I typically don't re-seat it until I'm ready to leave. This makes it easier to lift the cover back off when the next person inquires, and minimizes wear & opportunity to lose grommets.

Good idea to get extra grommets. My cover gets dirty and it's easier to clean than what's underneath. If you find your cover doesn't get dirty, then you have permission to leave it off.

Considering that the ICE Mini has a similar cover, I'm assuming that the cover's purpose is mostly cosmetic (and only marginally to keep our hands off dangerous wiring).

Read my posts about that cover which for summer is of in my SE trapping heat unnecessary for winter good think to make warmer under a hood .you give me good project to work on I my build that cover from clear lexan just to expose a motor I build cover for bottom if you under my SE car you can see all.And is stronger than a composite crab come with a car about 100 times.A tape is there temporarily to show is a clear Lexan there.

My point is that the ICE generates the same kind of heat, but yet, in their infinite wisdom, Mini puts the same kind of cover. Did you ever measure the heat in an ICE Mini?

Put silicone lubricant on grommets will be easy to take off without friction of rubber to metal and wiggle individual corners separately do not pull a cover at once .works for me.

Never measure a temperature in ACE car but you reach 220 F and you good what I’m doing with SE but your temperature gage in BMW IX 4 competition which I drove recently show me 216-220 degrees F. And many gas cars don’t have gage for temperature only expensive cars In SE those temperatures are never near as I post today I reach 123’ F on top of motor . ACE can double those temperatures and read my post I’m posting for a month for curiosity what is going there.The best temperature for EVs is 80-98’ all year long.

My EV bmw I 3 motor on rear have bottom completely open to a ground/street like 2x4 feet opening but SE front motor is pack like sardines in a can that’s why I measure all those temperatures under a hood just for curiosity.

Only 2400 miles and cover factory clean put clear silicone lubricant on grommets you never loose them again
