So excited to park in Electric Vehicle parking spot

Also, if at all possible I park at the spot NEXT to the EV spot and run the cord over to my car. That way a BEV can park in that spot and unplug me if they really need it.

Having had a LEAF for years, this is also my MO when only one charging spot is available. Nothing worse than getting iced out by a PHEV (usually Volt) that only needs one hour of charge but sits there all day!

We have a couple of free chargers where I live now. Dual head ChargePoint. Left spaces are designated EV while right spaces are for any car. I try to only use the right space on those.

I'm sure you meant ICEd out?

I live in St Louis and there are very few public charging stations. Zoo, science center, one or two in different community's. I have no qualms at all by taking the spots. However I also have no problem if they were to unplug me and charge their car next to mine if they notice (using the lights on the charging station) that I'm full.

I have the hang tags Weave mentioned in post 18 and I try to park one space over. I also leave a note on PlugShare when I check in.

Almost all of the "Public" chargers in Austin Tx are now pay to charge. The city has a program that allows for unlimited charges for something like $4 per month, so if I were to pay that, then I would feel that I am entitled to pull up to an empty charger, plug in my car, and charge it (though I am not a member, so I don't).

What will happen though is that if people abuse it, the chargers will start monitoring the port to see how long the vehicle is connected after the charge is full, and then start to charge an over-stay fee. That is because for pay chargers, when you are parked and not actually charging the car, you are depriving them of revenue, or of serving other program members, and I think that would be a fair approach. Charging stations are not parking spots, they are charging spots and should only be used for that purpose, and when the car is charged, it should be moved.

And before long, mark my words, that is what will happen. If you stay x number of minutes or hours after your charge is compete, they are going to punish you and to me, that is fair.

In my area there are no free chargers from what I can tell. They are all either paid by charge or by hour, or they are in a paid parking lot. I have seen some at dealerships but haven't inquired about the policy for using their chargers yet.
Amy2421, if you are still reading this post, plugshare, https://www.plugshare.com/ is the website with the great comments and pictures for each charger. They show a few more chargers than the chargepoint website and more detailed information. You mentioned the dealership in Milton and there are several free chargers near there. Not sure if that is convenient to your home/work.
