Gas prices have been climbing - if folks are getting decent offers on their oversized SUV's and crossovers, I can see a world where trading it for a Clarity makes sense.

Folks in N.A. wanting a plug-in hybrid with range have very few choices at the moment due to the A) the lack of designs and B) the limited availability of those few models. Perfect storm to drive up the only decent choice (IMO) for a larger, mid-sized plug-in vehicle in the used market.

The Clarity is definitely at the head of the class for EV range. Unfortunately, as a sedan, it isn’t in a popular category.
There are a number of recent models, almost all with less EV range and almost all being SUV’s. For the well heeled, Range Rover will be producing a vehicle with a 38kWh battery and a claimed EV range of 62 miles. There are about 10 vehicles with claimed EV ranges between 31-42 miles. Jeep recently introduced the Wrangler with a 21 mile range and will soon be delivering a Grand Cherokee with 25 miles of range. Both Jeeps have a 14kWh battery.
A heavy, bulky vehicle is a slap in the face to energy efficiency, but it may be an effective way to get some folks to drive something different. We are likely to sell our diesel Grand Cherokee within the next 2 years, before the extended warranty expires, and get the PHEV version. The PHEV is flat-towable behind a motorhome. That’s a must have for us.
