SE convertible

Perhaps not, but what I infer from the comments — and I’m ready to be corrected — is that it’s a specific frequency or chord from the SE’s drivetrain that @polyphonic finds objectionable. I used to be unable to visit jewelry stores in malls because of their “ultrasonic” alarms. Some aircraft APUs drive me nuts with a similar effect, which sucks, because I’m around aircraft 8+ hours a day, five or six days a week.

Exactly. I have an ICE car too and love the engine sound. I’ll admit right away that it’s a personal thing.

We gearheads grew up learning which engine sounds to appreciate and which ones were unpleasant. MINI designed exhaust systems that made their engines sound great. I can still appreciate a sonorous exhaust note, but I don't miss having my car make those sounds.

Get an ear plugs or get old like me you be not able to hear anything. Just a joke .

If all EVs made Jetsons car sounds (great for Doppler Effect) then maybe high-pitched frequencies wouldn't be noticed. But I can sort of relate, I absolutely can't stand the flicker of fluorescent lighting.
Change to LED now noise and you save a money’s.what about my cat or dog how we abuse them with all that noise we can’t HEAR . Sorry for PETS .

Definitely, I went from incandescent to LED, no problems with either of those. Unfortunately a lot of commercial buildings use fluorescent lighting. And I often wonder how our pets put up with all the noises we make, especially things like TVs and radio. I'm sure my dogs can hear our cars coming home from over a mile away. Except maybe not electrics like the SE.

My Mini pin wait for me always behind a doors from garage to a house as I use I 3 for six years and from January to May I have SE he always was there for SE or I3 . He left me on 10 May my friend dyed but my cat is doing the same waiting for me all the time . The best thing about i3 or SE my wife never knows I’m leaving a house and a garage door opener is no chain is a rubber no noise but animals hear all those low frequency nose .

There is the pedestrian noisemaker (I disabled this via Bimmercode), the whirring up and down of the inverter/motor, and a higher static tone. The static tone bothers me and I made a thread about it a while back. Gotta have dog ears to hear it. Really my only meaningful complaint about the car, and it's certainly not unique to the Mini. The tone is much reduced from my old i3.
My 2014 I 3 don’t have noise maker bc was not required for USA

Every EV is not making noise as ICE cars and once a battery pack is integrated into body EV structure is much stronger than any ICE car’s and convertible of any make is strong car .

[I had already read all your posts about this but didn’t quote them here]

It was hot/warm and humid through August and September after I picked up the car and almost never dropped the windows unless I was parked, and never noticed the variable chopper whine and the high frequency static tone over the pedestrian noisemaker. The return of cooler weather recently has allowed me to turn off the CC and enjoy some fresh air, and all I can say is JEEDOOF that HF noise from the powertrain is bad! Now I can’t NOT hear it, even with the windows up!! GAHHH

I’m truly sorry to hear this. It’s my absolute favorite car ever but this still bothers me. Your best bet is to increase the noise floor. Keep the pedestrian noisemaker on, and play music.

My wife says that’s why radios were invented! She was my passenger yesterday — I haven’t had too many yet — and there was a weird noise; she told me to quit obsessing and “turn up the radio”!

[it disappeared, but it sounded like a mouse running back and forth in the cowl]

I used to care but instant power is much more fun than noise to me.
As I always say, "Exciting joys without the noise." Well, not always, because I sometimes say, "Bounds about roundabouts, quietly acting out," and "Exchange the range for a ton of fun."
