Rollaway risk recall

Parking pawl may disengage even if the car was off and parked.

"The component manufacturer is listed as Hyundai KEFICO Corp., and the shifter control unit bears part number 42951-18150. The attached report highlights that owners of subject vehicles will be notified by first-class mail on May 25th with instructions to bring their cars in for a software update.

The remedy software prevents the shifter control unit from allowing the parking pawl to be moved out of park, therefore eliminating the risk of rollaway when the vehicle is off and in the parked position. Improved software logic was applied to production on May 3rd, one day after Hyundai introduced the remedy software for the Ioniq 5 built in the city of Ulsan."

"Hyundai recommends using the Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) when parking until the remedy is applied (update of the SCU software by dealers). Kia recommends parking the vehicles on level ground and avoiding parking on a slope/inclined surface whenever possible."

Thanks electriceddy, using the EPB is the interim solution obviously. Just have to remember.

I scheduled this fix quite a while ago but had to wait for a service opening at the local Kia dealer. Today the shop took care of one SA (Service Action), and one SC (Service Campaign) issue. The service advisor wanted to make it clear that the car was not in because of a "recall" for these issues.

The SA, SA495 DATC Logic Improvement, was a software improvement upgrade for Dual Auto Temperature Controller.
The SC, SC236 Shifter Control Unit SW Update, was just that, a Shifter Control Unit Software Improvement Upgrade, or logic improvement update, which hopefully resolved the potential chance that the parking pawl could disengage.

Both items of work took about an hour and a half. The SOC and GOM readings were not affected, and the only thing apparently changed was the outside temperature readout on the dash which switched to a Celsius value from Fahrenheit.
