Never heard of these guys,... until now. But they sound pretty impressive.

Hyundai owns 12% of them, Porsche has 24%. Apparently they are working closely with Hyundai on their E-GMP platform products. Here is a client list.

Drag race against a Tesla S Plaid. Rimac Nevera beats it, of course.

But it takes a $2.4M car to do it. It does demonstrate Rimac's superior engineering expertise, though, to sell to their other car maker clients.

And here is an ICE Mustang that also beats the Tesla S Plaid. That is another surprise for me. I guess Musk will just have to do a little more work on his Plaid to knock off another 1/2 second if he wants to regain bragging rights.

My understanding is one of the original Top Gear presenters ran an early Rimac off the road, totaling it and had a lot of medical attention:

I'm not surprised as much as wondering:
  • What tuning modifications were done to each car?
  • Where are the drag strip timing slips?
  • Are there car-to-car videos showing their progress down the track?
My understanding is the Plaid is software, top speed limited to 163 mph, below its planned 200 mph top speed. Our speed limited to 94 mph, BMW i3-REx, smoothly reduces acceleration above 75 mph measured by accelerometers. Regardless, I'm not in the market for a high-speed car.
