I'm just curious to know

How is the 2021 any different than the 19-20 in regards to this recall ?

If the 2021 has the issue resolved, wouldn't it imply they were aware of an issue and actually do have a fix ?

I have a 2021 and it doesn't make me feel any better about all this, I honestly think buyers no matter 2019 or 2021 wont touch our cars if we try to sell them

One theory is the new BMS will not allow future cumulative cell damage. Battery fires are not always caused by a single event.

I'm certainly in the camp thinking that the batteries are not defective from the factory but rather could become cumulatively damaged during usage. The quality control at manufacture is so much tighter statistically than the broad scatter of usage patterns (mostly that of charging) combined with BMS capability that does not appear to cover all corner cases. If batteries were defective from new then catastrophic events would certainly be much more common because the small variation in manufacturing quality would mean the average quality would have to be remarkably close to borderline such that only 0.02% cross over. There's always a more significant margin built into design, no-doubt this is why LG Chem are adamant that it's not their fault.

The current focus by Hyundai on assessing the battery over 10 minutes at the 80% level could be due to them understanding the issue, or it could be a more cautious charging approach due to them still not understanding the issue. The latter is what seems to have happened in the Campaign 960 (BMS) update, noting however that there are some initial indications that it was effective in the SK market, so they may be on the right track.

From what I have read online, this is not unusual.

Tesla is not in the used car business (per say) and would rather low ball you to get you to dispose of your current vehicle via some other fashion.

As always, YMMV.

The less Tesla offers for a trade-in, the more they pad their margins. Overall, their practices are ruthless which I find very unappealing as a consumer.

I am guessing they probably switched battery suppliers for other reasons, which means the issue is resolved no matter what.

I did it and it was a pain in the butt.. took me a while..

So for anyone else - You can export the dashboard from Torque Pro, and this produces a text file which you can edit in a text editor. It's then much easier to find all the user PID numbers for each Cell Voltage entry and then edit each coresponding "numberDecimals" entry, then save and import the file back in.

Or easier still - Here's one I made earlier:-

NOTE / DISCLAIMER - Save your current Torque Pro dashboard if you want to go back to it, because this file WILL overwrite all your Real Time information screens. This file is provided without any waranty or guarantee of satisfaction, but WILL save you a shed load of time. Change the extension from .txt to .dash (forum won't let me attach a .dash file!).

When I saw Tesla charged extra for the M3 in any color other than white that and the lack of a tax credit was enough to dissuade me.
When my son bought his M3 (early model) everything but black was extra, and he got white. Now it is the opposite.

I stopped in to our local dealer, and they said they know about the update, but aren't ready to apply it yet. While my VIN shows it on the recall site, they said to wait until I get my letter. That's OK with me, as I would still like to hear more from others that had it applied.

But I do wonder if I should hold off doing a 100% charge if there is potential to damage my battery. I have yet to do that since I bought the car a year and a half ago, and 24K kms ago. Most of my charging has been L2 to about 80%, sometimes to 90 (rarely).

Checking your cell balance first will address what is currently understood about that concern. SoulEVspy, the OBD dongle they recommend and an Android device is all you need.

Any suggestions for an ODB Dongle/App that would work with an iPhone?

The apps themselves usually have recommendations as to what works best. The dongle that the app developer uses is oftentimes best as that's the one that has the kinks worked out.

In that case, any recommendation for an iPhone app that will give me the voltage information?

Willl the free Lite version work or do I need the pay version?

NO if you've had the Service Campaign 960 BMS update. The developer of SoulEVspy no longer supports the LITE version, but the paid version has been patched and will work.
