I just double checked the cdn Hyundai recall site, it doesn't mention the charger part but the service guy, told me he had to order the part, though.

Me too. There are currently 3 recalls mentioned in Canada. The original battery software patch, the brakes issue software fix and finally the battery replacement recall - still with no solution and no details beyond parking away from structures. It appears owners in the U.S. and perhaps other countries have at least one or two more?

This is what the cdn site briefly says "Hyundai will first instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to lower the battery charging limit. You will also be provided with instructions for how to do this yourself using the vehicle's infotainment system. "
But it.doesnt say what percentage.
Honestly from my dealings with Hyundai, we on the forum, know more about the EV, then Hyundai Canada knows about it and they sell it. Lol

There's certainly nothing new about that! It concerns me a bit that we've had exactly zero official correspondence from Hyundai Canada about the (supposed) battery recall, the risk of fire and the advice to park away from flammables. All of that information has come through hearsay and the automotive press. Discouraging and, to my mind, legally dubious for them.

Basically Transport Canada is just like Health Canada, they do squat until other countries do all the testing or research. It's really pathetic and they are just paper weight bodies, that get paid large to appear important.
 
I finally got around to bringing my car in for the electronic brake recall not knowing about this recall. I was told that there was an additional recall that required that the battery charging be reduced to 80% and that they could not do the brake recall without also doing this one. I refused to let them do any work until I had a chance to research this so I left without having anything done. It's good to know that this recall is just changing the settings in the application, settings that can be changed again when I need more than 80%. I'm not sure how I feel about the fact that my battery will need to be replaced. I've had zero issues with my battery, but I do have almost 30,000 miles on it, so getting a fresh battery that delivers the same performance wouldn't be a bad thing. It's a shame this is happening though, it's so challenging to get people to consider ev's. Stories like this don't help.
 
This same flaw happened with some batteries on 2017 Bolts. They did the computer change, claiming 90%, but it was more like 80%. I called the dealer demanding that they replace the battery, as they admitted that it was defective. Their reply: we are referring you to our Vehicle Repurchase Department. They actually offered us a really good price to buy the car back (rather than fixing it). We used that to buy a new EV.
 
Does anyone know if instead of lowering capacity to 80%, you could up it to over 100% I understand, the capacity is actually a little higher?
Lastly are all owners of 2019 Kona EV's getting a new battery.....I have read mixed messages on that issue.

PS........I onc had one flat screen TV go out right after warranty went out and I needed two service calls in first month of new LG washer & dryer.........I am now getting solar for home, and LG panels were recommended!! I told the guy that I will never buy an LG product, ever again.

I would be all over that ,,,as replacement battery is gonna take forever and getting restricted to 80% frankly sucks.
The biggest constraints in ev production is the batteries.
I'm not sure, where their come up with 80,000 batteries and if they are subpar that is gonna be a fly in the ointment because I bought this car for its advertised range, not my problem they screwed up.

Well, as far as I know Samsung does not make any batteries, or any parts, for cars...:)

I would sell my Kona back if they would buy it from me for my remaining loan balance.. No issue with the car but I really want a Model Y for the bigger interior space and mostly because of the supercharger network..
 
FYI, this morning I received a POP UP on my Bluelink APP on my phone telling me "Not to exceed 80% CHARGE Due to Battery Recall Issue". I just charged last night to 80%, so not sure if this was a coincidence or if they issued the MAX 80% code to my car last night.

There are no OTA updates even possible with the Kona. The message was for you not the car.
 
Yea, I get that ... Thanks (in a Facebook Group, someone else received that msg as well & noted their 90% Charge rate was not changed, as expected.)

I'm sure that they can update the charge rate over the air. If the owner can change it over the air, Hyundai can too.. I believe that they are not attempting to change the max charge but just warning you so that they can cover their butt if the car burns down your house..

Hyundai has been Jacking me around with a "Buy Back" Suggestion since January. After their Buy Back Person contacted me in January she said she would send me a Proposal "Next Week" with numerous stalling Emails in between. She kept repeating Don't Contact a Lemmon Law Lawyer, We can Work this Out between ourselves, we don't need to get a Lawyer Involved. Next Week has turned into April and I now have my Lemon Lawyer on Speed Dial!

In my case, I don't think that lemon law would really apply.. I hope that Tesla will offer me a decent amount if I trade it in.. Let's see..
