Hey everyone,
I drive a mini cooper SE with 32kw battery, so on longer trips I spend a lot of time sitting at chargers.
Just for fun, I built the app I wanted myself when I sit at a dc charger wondering how far I get on the current level, and how much longeri should sit at the charger before I will make it where I plan to go.
The app is now up on App Store and is called RangePilot.
It is designed to help you quickly estimate how far you’ll get on your current charge, but also has a simple trip planning tab to help estimate how many stops you’ll need for a specific trip.
It lets you tweak things that influence range s lot - what kind of driving you expect (city vs highway), outdoor temperature, and even stuff like towing or a roof box, to get a more realistic range estimate. You can also log a few real world consumption numbers from your own trips to calibrate the app’s estimates based on your own driving.
It comes preloaded with a bunch of EV profiles but you can also add custom profiles, just give it your usable battery, DC charging speed, and official wltp. The app also has general settings for distance in miles and Fahrenheit temp, for US users.
It’s free to try for 14 days. After that, it’s just a one-time ~$1 (lowest available price tag in app store) if you want to keep using it. No subscriptions, and it doesn’t collect or store any data.
Would love for some of you to give it a try and let me know what you think!
