PSA: Recall for HV Battery

Thanks for having me in. Having just read the last 14 pages about the recall, I wanted to share my experience. 'Got the car back after the recall (reprogram), was very concerned that performance was noticeably reduced, wished I'd done some timed runs before the recall to confirm my suspicions, but kept in mind that the car had been sitting outside at the dealership, temps mid 30°'s F. Got home, spent most of the day reading all 14 pages of this thread, esp. regarding the loss of settings. Happy to report- "we're back!", got behind the wheel, hit the toggle, and sure enough, it was set on GREEN mode. Back to sport, and all is quite good (after turning traction control back on).

The performance did not seem to be affected by the reprogram, it was merely that the car had defaulted to the Green setting.. However, several settings were lost, including the mentioned Sport mode, also the Driver Stability Control, and the weirdness with the illuminated segments of the fan control, which was mentioned by others in earlier posts (these came back in a few minutes). Also- the MINI app was acting buggy, so as suggested by others here, it was deleted from the phone and reinstalled. No problems afterwards, and previous charge history was restored.
 
But I don't get what you mean by "turning traction control back on." The default is always going to be DSC, and the toggle is to turn off DSC and turn on so-called "traction control" which essentially minimizes the electronic nannies and makes the car a lot less safe to drive, especially in winter. As has been shown in multiple YouTube videos, turning off DSC has virtually no effect on acceleration times. The software update certainly didn't reset DSC to TC or vice-versa.

Ok, thanks for the info.. . 'must've just been the damp road conditions, tires already done at 20+ k miles combined with getting out of Green mode, rather than a selection of DSC or Traction Control. I'll check out some of those YT videos on the subject.
 
Honestly don't remember mine ever defaulting to Green, because I coded it to Sport within the first 30 miles! I recently (right after the 2-year "service" and firmware update) coded it to default to Mid.

My Rexio is 3 years old as you mention green mode acceleration slow as I test a car 3 year’s ago if car don’t have red sport setting I will be not costumer on buying SE which only Sport red make me happy to drive SE As I charge always to 100% I don’t see any degradation in HV battery at all but after recall as dealer change a setting my L2 charger is always going to reduce charging not on public charging stations which I realy don’t care as I think slower charging my benefit HV battery on a long run bc I keep that car as long I can drive to be not worry if the new models come from China or Oxford .As you reach 100000 miles I need 15 years to get there the way I’m putting milages on my SE .Few years ago driving I3 for 7 years I read some publications like HV battery on I3 that after 16 years should have about 70% as is good for me as SE should have better chemistry any way .I’m amazed putting Nokians all weather tires WRG -5 Remedy wider 205/55/16 only available for 16” factory rims with 10 mm spacers car is doing much better on sharp turns with high speed as they design for EVs I don’t see a milage degradation as I drive every weekend 70 miles the same route arriving with 50 miles than charging 100% getting home with 50 miles again .Love my go-cart .

Those yellow 6” lights are realy not to illuminate a road just to make car more visible with yellow glass lenses and 5 watts LED yellow bulbs as they so low on wattage and on switch I’m forgetting to turn of over night my 12 v battery is not affected at all IMG_1771.webp

IMG_1750.webp. The best tire you can own for rain mild winter /snow and summer if your summer performance tires are wear out as is my opinion of 50 years expierience 2 years on Subaru those tires is a good deal manufactured I Dyton OH

As those Nokians are only available 205/55/16” those are a spacers I uses to make a space from struts to be sure I have a clearance as some members on forum are saying is not required ???. Work for me with spacers as truck is wider for better handling as is only 10 mm

I finally had this recall completed this week. The car still starts in sport mode, but I think every other setting got wiped. Weird.
 
I didn't notice anything different after the service (they did the upgrade at the same time). I have a first edition SE from. 2020, and it always started in mid. It still does, as my muscle memory always flicks the switch to sport. No degradation in over 4 years. I got 220km (almost 140 miles) last charge even with the ad-09s. Of course it could be that the firmware update wasn't needed for my car - I have the sticker saying it was checked....

Yes, that additional SOC would provide more energy for generating heat, which would vaporize more electrolyte, which would result in more risk of fire.

iFixit made a video that shows the difference more SOC can have on a battery fire (albeit a smaller cellphone battery). A demo w/ a battery at 30% is around 1:37, and the same demo with a identical, but fully-charged battery starts at 2:07.

Just realized the other day that I forgot to reset my charging schedule to start at midnight after I had the recall software update, so I've been charging immediately for the past 2 weeks. Afraid to look at my electric bill now.
 
Just tossing mine in here. I delayed getting my winter tires put on because my summer tires were toast this summer after a curb eat them. So I was on really good all seasons, but not great for snow. I did the recall and my tires Christmas Eve. Car seems normal since then. It reset its gasometer to being more optimistic and showed 120 mi. My car started in mid as normal which is what I usually drive in. I sometimes switch to sport but not as often. Nothing else seemed to be changed on mine outside of some of the settings with the locks and such that were reset. Fortunately my bimmer coding for seat belt warning sound remained off. Whenever I put jugs of milk on the front seat my seat belt warning sound goes off and it drives me nuts.

I had a loaner car from Mini when I sent this in. I had it for 2 days since on Christmas Eve they didn't get it done quite in time and they probably took off early. I picked up my car on the 26th and really had missed my SE. I was driving a four-door s type so still pretty small but it didn't handle near as great as the older minis did. I had a mini previous to this one that I currently have and it was a blast as well. I just didn't love all these updates and I really don't like the screen being used as much as they do. I hate having to rely on the heads up display as well.
 
The owner of one of the cars that suffered a thermal event reached out to me via youtube. They had an HV battery warning come in and took it to the dealer. The car caught on fire while at the dealer
