Please help me get my Mini home

800 miles is a long trip in an BEV. If any of the charging locations are out of order, what is your backup plan?

I’m not really trying to be a wet blanket here, but just want you to be well informed and attempting this road trip with your eyes and mind wide open.

I appreciate ALL feedback, even scary feedback =] I don't really have a backup plan but I do have time (and money, if it comes down to it). My plan is to simply charge frequently and hope that the car can stretch to the next charger if one is unavailable.

There shouldn't be any issues if you are averaging over 4mi/kWh - if you need more range efficiency, drive at 55MPH on the highway to reduce aerodynamic drag. Out of Spec Motoring did about 131.9 miles at about 58MPH until the battery ran out.

If you are really concerned, just stop midway at a Level 2 station for 30 minutes (set Level 2 to max charge) and that should get you probably 3.5kWh or another 14 miles (at 4mi/kWh).

Do it!!!! Road trips are so fun and liberating. And what a great way to bond with the new car. I say go for it and enjoy the ride. Do a blog as you go to document your journey.

I have check in hand and I'm looking for flights !

Friday morning, I picked the Mini up and drove to St Louis, Saturday I drove the rest of the way home. It was pretty uneventful, though I will say that I never saw more than 103 miles of range on the GOM even fully charged.

The only issue I experienced was a loss of A/C for a while, which was resolved by turning the temp all the way up then all the way back down. No idea what happened but it has worked ever since.

At some point my Mini is going to land and I'll need to drive it a long way home. It will be my first electric car and I am planning my first road trip. I need some help.

The first gap that makes me nervous is getting from :

to

The only "fast" chargers in between that I can find are two car dealerships that I would be arriving to after hours.

Driving my new car 113 miles makes me very nervous.

I understand what you are going through….I just drove from Mount Pleasant South Carolina to Hardeeville SC - approximately 104-108 miles. I stayed off the interstate and drove most of the way on green but also green+ but in the end it was only adding less than 5 miles so wasn’t worth sweating LOL! I had planned - if necessary- for one stop but it was just a L2 charger and I decided to chance it since I was able to regenerate the battery a little with my route. I actually made it home with an extra 30 miles.

I'm in a similar situation with the dealer 110 miles away. It's not worth the range anxiety and trying to kill time waiting for a charge in 100+ degree heat so I decided to have my car shipped to me for $250.

You will hopefully have two years before you return to your dealer (for your first scheduled maintenance). By then there will certainly be more charging options along the way. It would be a bummer if you had to spend $500 when your SE needed to go to your dealer.

Will you visit your SE before it's shipped to check the movable shutters in the front grille?

We have a MINI Service Center in Tucson. They sell preowned cars but not new ones and, yes, I’ll be driving it before accepting it and trucking it down. I’ll have to research the shutters, unfamiliar.

Just got a response from my sales rep. It is now part of the PDI so MINI must be aware it’s an issue. They will make a specific notation on the inspection sheet if it’s not a check list item.

Are you the same person under 2 accounts or just like that avatar?

Are you referring to MINI of Tucson on 22nd St? Or is there something else?

MINI of Tucson informed me that they “don’t believe in electric cars”. So they will not sell or service the SE.

As the ICE car travels, it's 650 miles from Des Moines, IA to Chattanooga, TN. I have 967 miles on my car (think I started with 10 on the odo), so following chargers was a wee bit slower but someday when the infrastructure is in place ...

As for the active shudders, I specifically told my dealer about them ... I got there and it was still loose. They offered to fix it at that point but I had a long trip ahead of me, so I decided to wait.
