Ontario owners: how long does it take to receive the government rebate?

Agree 100%! I just wanted to point out the difference in the scenarios in order to set proper expectations for the followers of this thread. I know when I read your post that your rebate denial was reversed, I was very hopeful that mine would be reversed as well. When you mentioned that your dealer had said that they submitted on time, that hope was greatly diminished. Until there is any evidence that MTO is willing to relax the July 16 deadline rule, we just have to assume that we will be left out to dry, as unjust as that is.

Hi everyone,

I'm going to setup a meeting with an MPP to discuss this. can you send over the relevant links (i know they were somewhere in the forum). of the ministry deadline dates and their requirements from the dealers? Also who is on twitter... its the best way to get this out in the public.

See the Guide from this link. The guide mentions the ministry approved order list, and the July 16 deadline for dealers to submit. The actual application form makes no mention of the July 16 deadline.

Hi jstephens, you mention towards the end of your post that the MTO will only consider appeals before the end of the month. Did you get something in writing about that or is it something that was verbally told to you? How would one initiate an appeal of their denial? I'm in the same boat as you and want to start the appeal with the MTO.
I can’t recall exactly where we saw it. I will try to find it. I don’t know if there is an official appeal process, I have emailed the MTO email in our denial notice and have not received a reply.

I heard from my VW rep again today, who wrote the following: "... the Ministry of Transportation ... is looking for clarification from our [dealership] end, and this is exactly what we [VW] are doing. My management is in the process of contacting the Ministry of Transportation. Hopefully this will rectify the issue and negate the need for any further action on your part. ... the Ministry of Transportation is inundated with calls and emails these days, so it may take a week or so to get a response. Hopefully next time I get in touch the issue would have been resolved."

His message is not exactly making me feel warm and fuzzy inside, but in my particular case, my rep is at least telling me that the dealership is working on resolving my denied claim, by contacting the MTO to forward proof that my vehicle was on the list. He also mentioned something I didn't know about, OMVIC - the Ontario Motor Vehicle Industry Council. OMVIC's mandate is to "maintain a fair and informed marketplace by protecting the rights of consumers..." - just google OMVIC, it's the first link. My rep said that any MTO correspondence that affects dealership across Ontario would normally go through OMVIC. My rep found no evidence of correspondence from OMVIC about the MTO inventory deadline, nor did he find any correspondence directly from the MTO. It's as if the MTO set a deadline that no-one knew about, because they didn't bother to tell anyone about it until after the fact, and are now claiming you ought to have known, and that if you're not on the list... well to bad, so sad, no rebate for you.

I'm glad to read that there are reversals in rebate decisions - from denied to approved. I'm still very agitated about this mess we're living through, but I'm more optimistic today than I have been. It's been a gut wretch since I received my letter. Looking forward to a positive outcome, but I'm not lying down just yet.

I’m in the same boat, I purchased my 2018 e-golf in August 2017, picked it up on Aug 3rd 2018! I got my claim denied on Feb 28th 2019 due to the vehicle not being on the ministry approved order list. I'm getting the run around from the dealership saying they are "looking into this", called OMVIC with no real help, called VW Canada, they said it needs to be resolved at the dealership level and there isn't much they can do, I'm at a loss. Keep me posted if you hear anything and I will keep you guys all informed when I "hear back" from VW.
Same situation, e-golf from Roseland VW (Burlington), ours was the only e-golf they sold. The only thing we have as proof are emails from our rep that he attempted to confirm our vehicle was eligible (August 27), and never received a reply to repeated inquiries to MTO. I have not received any reply from our MPP, Ombudsman, VW Canada, feels like we are being ignored. I have reached out to Ellen Roseman and CBC as well, not sure if anything will come of it. I will post if I hear anything this week.

I am not on Twitter but I posted on the VW Canada Facebook page, no helpful reply to this point.

Hi all,

Ellen Roseman (Business Columnist at Toronto Star) is working on a story. Please send her details of your situation to: [email protected]

Its been two weeks and all i've gotten from Yorkdale VW is "we're trying to escalate this to a higher level at MTO" and the ministry says "the dealer hasn't provided the information"...

I emailed Ellen Roseman with my details. Thanks for setting it up.

Update for all Yorkdale VW customers: I spoke to our sales rep today, and he informed me that Yorkdale management is NOW saying they definitely sent all the requisite info for “the list” in the timeframe specified by the govt., and to prove it they’ve re-sent all the info, and are waiting to hear back from MTO. Again, no guarantee or timeline given, but their tune has certainly changed since last week. Apparently “sales-level” employees were not made aware of the existence of “the list” but management were, and allegedly acted accordingly. The cynic in me is still not convinced, but this is certainly a more encouraging position than last week. To be continued…

Hi, Ellen Roseman at the Star sent this

“Thanks, Janet. Can you ask people in your situation if anyone got an answer from a government official? Even if it's a no, I'd like to get it and use it.

Thanks,
Ellen

Could anyone who has received a yes or no response please send to Ellen.

What does she mean by a yes or no? I have the denial email from EHVIP. I emailed them to try to start an appeal, but have not received a response back.
Same for me, that’s what I have sent to her. Not sure if anyone has heard more than that so far. We called last week after emailing to also try to start an appeal. MTO said they’d be back to us in a couple of days. That was a week ago and still no response.

I just found this thread. I got the same denial message for my car not being on "the list" back in Feb 28. I also don't remember seeing that list mentioned in the original documentation and I went through it several times to make sure my car would qualify. My dealer is Avenue Nissan in Toronto. I have been dealing with Kesh the salesman and Omar a manager. I was provided a printout of the order from May 2018 which I also attached to my application and sent again when I got the denial. I'm not sure if they did send their inventory by the deadline although the say "yes". But later the manager said that they sent the Ministry the same copy of the order that I already had which is what got me really worried and wondering if they even knew about the list.

Billypg, I am in the exact same boat as you with Avenue Nissan. Omar told me the car was submitted on the list. I'm hoping the proof they provide is enough to change their decision. He seemed hopeful but I'm nervous.

Emailed Ellen Roseman earlier this evening and she replied back fairly quick. Her story will run on March 26th in the Star. I wish I could say the same of everyone else I've emailed - MPPs, media outlets, VW Canada, OMVIC, Ontario Ombudsman, and on and on - zero replies.
I'm still anxious but optimistic after reading that BMW EV customers are receiving reversals notices. Hope this nightmare will be resolved for everyone by the end of the month if not sooner.

Great re March 26 story. Our MPP just let us know our case is being reviewed and he should know shortly. Our vehicle was not submitted by the deadline as our dealer never received the July 11 communication. I will report back on the outcome. Hoping our arguments appeal to someone’s better nature.

Billypg, did you do any legwork on this yourself, ie calling MTO, MPPs etc, or was this a result of your dealership following up and correcting an error? I’ve been taking my dealership (Yorkdale VW) at their word that they’re doing all they can, but so far no news, and they’re not exactly forthcoming with information about exactly WHAT they’re doing on their end.

I replied to the first denial email and they sent me the canned answer about "the list". I contacted my dealer and they said they would submit the paperwork the Ministry requested so I replied back to the ministry telling them that my dealer said that they did in fact submit my car to that list before the deadline. I kept asking my dealer about this and all they said was that they had submitted the required info to the Ministry.

That's all I did.

Ok, thanks for that. That’s where I’m at as well, so hopefully I’ll be hearing from the MTO soon!
