Devil's advocate. Would it really be extortion if they really do not have any base models left? Then they were just being honest. It's take the touring or go, because there really are no base models. The onus would be on Honda Canada in my opinion, because they should have let the dealerships know that there would be so little supply.

do you know the law on this?Honda would be wise to just say all 2018 orders will be filled with a 2019 and if the rebate is gone, Honda will compensate the dealership for the additional price discount required to make the customer whole. Saves everyone the time of court.
do you know the law on this?
No offense but from what you posted it does not sound like you know the law on this.
I don't. I would like it to be what you say but am not convinced on what has to be proven or what is available as compensation.
I am interested in hearing examples on this or providing them if they come my way.
Without knowing what the contract states or what the law is it is just "that's not fair!". Giving the Ministry of Government Services or a lawyer a call would be a good first step. The APP may also be inclined to provide info. That’s fine. We can agree to disagree. I’m not a lawyer so it’s not like I am trying to earn business. I’ll only be representing myself.
If you are correct, and you cannot sue for damages as a result of a breach of contract, then why would anyone create contracts in the first place???

Rush to court if you like but without details you will waste everyone's time and lose.
Encourage others they have right they don't and you are just causing them a problem too.
Here is an example regarding rebates but U.S. law. Guy bought the car on Jan 1st. Dealer backdated it to December 31st. Guy lost his $7500 tax credit because it had no value for him that previous year, he was maxed. Guy was right but the law states the rebate was not real money so no damages.
You are still jumping to conclusions. You do not know which thread I read on this and now you know a U.S. states law enough to tell someone they couldn't win?.....I was the guy on that $7,500 tax credit post who explained why he couldn’t win at that point in time.

I hope it works out for you, me and all without a big hassle.
Well I was able to reach Honda Canada with an agent that wanted to talk!!!
The agent confirmed that they is currently no more 2018 getting build.
I explained our situation and the agent was surprised.
I'm in Quebec so I'm not impacted ( I hope not ) by the election to cut the subventions. But I explain to her that everyone that have orders from Ontarian are at risk of loosing that grant if a resolution is not settle for the 2019 orders.
The agent said that the director of sales of each dealer as access to the province inventory and can call to get the other provinces inventory.
Sadly the only way to pass a message to the REGIONAL representative of Honda is true the dealers sales director.
I have the full recording but it's in french.
The agent told me to call the Sales director and as ask him to confirm the inventory and what is the plan.
SORRY, no good news.
Only thing I forgot to asked and could probably not answer is if there was like a last batch on the ship between Japon and Canada.
It wasn't here and the Internet is a big place, you don't know all of it.How many threads here dealt with the situation you described? Only 1 that I know of. So how is it not a reasonable conclusion?
Another SMH on that one. Know your limits.US law, state or federal, is still grounded on the same common law principles as Canada. While jurisprudence and legislation created in one doesn’t apply to the other, they are all based on the same fundamental principles. How one must establish negligence to win a case is universal between the countries.
I stayed at a Holiday in last night.I’m not a lawyer but I have worked for 10+ years dealing with legalese and case law on a daily basis.
The director of sales has access, and the managers don't know about this? They must be aware but think it's too much of a hassle... Maybe I'll get in touch with my dealership's sales manager again. Thanks for finding out for us, even though you're not impacted by the Ontario rebate program.
