Ontario Motor Vehicle Sales Regulator....that is what the Ministry of Government Services consumer protection page sends people to so they are also worth looking up. I am waiting on my dealer to let me know.....they only ordered one of these and so didn't oversell I guess.
I have faith.

So my dealer (or actually her sales manager) just called me and tell me that I have the choice of getting my deposit back, get the 2019 model (which means 99% I will lose my $14k rebate) or pay $5000 extra to get the Touring.

Oh, also even if I choose the Touring trim, the car won't be here until Sept of this year right before the rebate deadline.

It is definitely bait and switch and you should file a complaint. But the dealer will say the supply is out of their control and blame Honda Canada, and Honda Canada will say the supply is out of their control and blame Honda Japan even though Honda Canada is run by execs working for Honda Japan.

and if they oversold the allotment that Honda said they would get?
 
That's why I just created a new thread as I want to find out how many people have ordered the Clarity in Canada (both base and touring).
 
I just received a call from a dealership (Vaudreuil Honda) in Quebec I had emailed with about 2.5 weeks ago.

The sales manager confirmed Honda is not making any more 2018’s and remaining base orders that don’t yet have a VIN won’t be filled.

He is getting one more white touring in a week and a half and is calling around to see who will pay top dollar.

No way I’d take that bait and switch. I’d rather just take the 2019 as a replacement and whatever extra I end up out of pocket, recoup it in small claims court.

Someone in Milton just received a White Base Clarity yesterday, posted on facebook. Ordered in Jan.

I am trying to find out exactly when he ordered and what his VIN number is

Edit:

He ordered on Jan 29 and his VIN ends in 495

Lucky you are in Quebec so you don't have to worry about the rebate like we do here in Ontario if we were to get the 2019 MY

I’m not in Quebec, I’m in Ottawa. I had just contacted a few dealerships in the Montreal area to explore options.

My rebate is at risk like the rest of you hence why I was discussing small claims court. I wouldn’t try and sue for the time delay, but absolutely will if I end up with less rebate because of Honda’s actions.

Does small claims court take such a large amount of money ($13-14k). I always thought it's only for a few hundred to may be $1,000
 
Does anyone find the timing of the announcement suspicious? I think they want to force everyone to take the Touring deal before the election next week.

Also I wonder if this will be consider to be a new contract or not as I will lose another $1,000 if that's the case. Anyone that order before the March 8th change is in the same boat as me.

I dont think at this point there is an announcement from honda. most of it is from delaerspeak - and i would take that with a grain of salt. the dealers objective is to paint you a picture to free them of any liabilities. the statement would be completely different or none if you ask the dealer to put down what he said on a email or a letter.

Looks like small claims can go up to $25K now. Never been to small claims, any lawyers out there that can assist if a bunch of us end up going that route?
 
One thing definitely all the folks need to do is to ask dealerships to provide the instruction in writing through e mail so we have some basis of talk. Talking over phone has no value.
 
Talked to my dealer about this several weeks ago. He said that these 'contracts' are more 'commitments' because you get your deposit back or whatever. I'm sure they are thinking of counter measures as well..

For everyone being pressured into ‘upgrading’ to a touring because you can’t risk not having any vehicle, please keep in mind that you could still sue for the additional cost you were extorted into paying.

Initiating a small claim case in Ontario will cost you $80. Even if a judge decides your case was without merit and wants to award costs against you, they are capped at 15% of the claim.

Devil's advocate. Would it really be extortion if they really do not have any base models left? Then they were just being honest. It's take the touring or go, because there really are no base models. The onus would be on Honda Canada in my opinion, because they should have let the dealerships know that there would be so little supply.
