Newbie here, wife getting her 2021 Kona (preferred) six months earlier than expected.

The cost for alignment is not going to happen, if there is an issue warranty will cover.
Did you try to turn off the LKA with the button on the instrument panel (switch block) to the left of the steering wheel, (the one with the car and two lanes).
The car operates like any regular old car and does't try to pull you to one side or the other.
The LKA setting that I set up for my wife is the least intrusive of the three options, it is set to only give a warning chime when crossing either the center line or shoulder line.

However, I will turn that LKA button off prior to my next test drive, just to be sure.
 
You might check that the checkbox setting is not changed back automatically on each start or after some other period. You would think those settings in the list are fixed once set by the driver but that has not been the case on my car.

I did take the car for a spin this afternoon.

Although improved (with correct inflation and the swapped tires), it is still not correct.

I've booked an alignment at the dealership for a week tomorrow.
 
"Correct inflation" is a dartboard depending on whose opinion you're hearing. I'd say push them
all up to 60 PSI like I keep mine and see how it tracks then. At that point you can eliminate
inflation from the equation and concentrate on whether it's truly misaligned or not.

Your mi/kWh will improve regardless.

I've set them to 41 PSI (cold).

The car does track better, but there is still too much (IMO) requirement for continual steering inputs...and the steering wheel is not aligned correctly when tracking straight.

I'll ask for the actual alignment numbers, even if I'm told everthing is within spec.

Correct tire inflation isn't an opinion though you might have an opinion about it
 
The background: my wife hates my TM3 but loves the EV lifestyle (sorry, I hate that term but I can't think of a better word right now).

A year ago she decided that the only EV she wanted was the Kona EV (same car I would get if the Tesla didn’t exist).

After suitable humming and hawing, she commited to wanting a blue (with white roof) Kona EV Preferred package and put down $1,000 to have the local dealership order one.

At that time, the dealership said the wait would be until some time in early 2021, but a 2021 white (with black roof) Kona EV Preferred package was arriving in four to six weeks.

The people who originally ordered that car cancelled their order and would my wife be interested in it.

She wanted the blue, so she said no to the offer of first refusal on the in comming white.

Fast forward to four days ago.

The dealership left a message saying the car would be a 2021 model and cost $100 more.

Yesterday morning, via this forum, I found out that the blue color was not available on the 2021 Preferred so off we went to see the dealership.

If my wife wanted the blue, she would only get it by paying the up charge ($6,700 plus HST I think) for the top line trim package.

So yesterday, while we were enroute for a two day trip to the inlaws, she committed to buying the white model that is in stock!

Her current car (2012 Yaris hatchback) was privately sold yesterday evening and she is picking up her new Kona EV sometime within the next five business days (we gotta get back home...).

So I've already bought her an EVSE unit and will be running the circuit in the garage tomorrow evening.

My ceramic guy (Opti-Coat Pro Plus) is booked to come over on the Tuesday following Labour Day.

The TuxMats are being ordered for the passenger floors and Weathertech for the rear cargo compartment.

My only two questions (for now) to the community is:
  • What winter tires are recommended, and
  • Has anyone had a chassis spray of Krown/Rust Check done?

Mike, I hope your wife is under 30 and has an electrical engineering degree plus a degree in software engineering or programming from Cal Tech or MIT because these cars are Too Technical. In fact, after I got my 2020 Kona Ultimate EV I wrote to the head of Hyundai Motors and told him they should not sell these cars unless they include a two-week hands-on training course on what all the different tech items and settings are. It's very frustrating when their own Tech Support can't answer. It's not just Hyundai. My wife likes the Mazda 3. She had already had three prior Mazdas including a 2017 when she decided she wanted the 2020 Mazda 3 with Built in Navigation. We picked up the car in July of 2019 after the cars had already been out and selling for at least 7 or 8 months. We had some questions about the Navigation system so we called Mazda Tech Support. The person on the phone asked if we were sitting in the car and asked what year the car was and to describe the display. When we told him 2020 and described the display he said that the car had the newest system on it and they only had information on the 2018 and prior models. I said the car has already been on the market since August or September of 2018 to which he replied, We know; We are waiting for the info ourselves. We never received it from the system developer.
 
Congrats on the new Kona -- I'm a bit prejudiced, as yours is the same color scheme as mine!
I can't tell from the Photos. Is the roof Black? I have the Exact same Kona 2020 EV in the all Grey/Blue Color including the roof and the interior. I thought it was White but it is actually Grey (saiys so on the window sticker). I had to wait 3 months for the car because every car the dealers near me had were all Blue, Black or Dark Grey. If they could find one at another dealership in our colors, the other dealers refused to trade for it. Even though I live in the Los Angeles/Orange County Area (the car capital of America) I have not seen more than one or two of these cars on the road. Plenty of other Hyundais and Konas, but not EV's.

She didn't get the Ultimate because the Preferred has everything she wanted (except the color blue for 2021, but that is another story...) so there is no built in nav to worry about.

I read all the manuals and with the help of the folks here, set things up such that they are as close to her old Yaris as possible.

Her learning curve was steep for the first three drives, but she now has the reflexive routine down perfectly.

I even set the charging settings up such that all she has to do is plug the thing in and walk away.

She's happy with it and that's all that matters.

First I am glad your wife is happy with the car. That's all that matters. After I wrote the President of Hyundai America asking about Classes for the Car Hyundai had someone call me. They said they would consider what I said and told me I was not the 1st person to complain about the car being too difficult to understand. I have not heard any more from them. I just watch the YouTube Videos on my phone in the car and then change the settings on my car in accordance with the video tutorials.

Navguy12 I do have a question for you. I thought we were talking about the Kona EV Cars. They come in 3 trims, the SEL, the Limited and the Ultimate, which I have. I noticed in your post you said your wife bought the Preferred. I was not familiar with it so looked it up on the Hyundai site. It is not listed on the Hyundai America Websites. Is it a special Canadian Trim Level for the Kona EV? or a different car altogether?

Well, well well. I just went to the Canadian Hyundai Website and much to my surprise the Canadian Kona EV's come in 3 trims. The Essential, the Preferred and the Ultimate. I did not know that. Very interesting.

You may also have noticed, on the Canadian Hyundai site anyway, that Hyundai anti-sells the Kona EV.

Logically, if one is shopping for a Kona EV, one would seek the Hyundai web site, then seek the Kona portion of it with the expectation that the Kona EV would be one of the number of Konas listed...but one doesn't see the Kona EV amongst the Kona choices.

For the Kona EV, it is like having to check the penalty box (under some generic sub heading for BEVs and PHEVs) and see who is stuck wearing a dunce cap sitting in the corner...

A Googe search (confirmed by my wife back when she began seriously considering this car) of "Kona Ev Canada" will give one a result that, when clicked on, winds up being on the Hyundai.ca site, Kona sub section...and of course no Kona EV.

And in my Walter Mitty fantasy world, by 2023 (yes, only three years from now), if one is insistent on purchasing a new ICE powered vehicle, then one will have to do so knowing that no financial institution will recognize that new ICE powered vehicle as collateral for any required financing. :)
 
Got the free wheel alignment today, no issues:

Just spent five hours applying the rust spray to the car (chassis, front engine bay, hood, hatch, four doors).

When I swap the all seasons for the winter tires, I'll remove each wheel well isolation trim and shoot in those areas.

I was going to take a bunch of pictures but got too messed up to start fiddling with a phone :)
