NACS adaptor

Cool. Although I've lost hope that MINI (BMW) will follow through on the letter they sent us last year about giving us SE owners an adaptor I happen to have two.

I got a free adapter from Ford for my 2023 F-150 Lightning XLT, and ended up getting another (slightly different one) when I traded it in for an F-150 Lightning Flash. I still have the original adapter, so I'll have to carry it in my SE.

F56 SE are unable to charge at Tesla Superchargers unless magic dock equipped. So why would you expect a free adapter?

Because BMW sent out a letter to all of us SE owners promising one by the end of 2025. Maybe not free, but definitely promising availability. Which also implied MINI would be joining the Tesla supercharger network like other car brands have.

But Tesla is moot now because of how many non-Tesla NACS capable charging sites are coming online.

As I mentioned, Tesla superchargers are no longer the only option for NACS charging.

So just buy the adapter vs expecting Mini to send one out. Even Ionna has dual nacs and ccs cables. Not like you will be doing heavy road tripping with the car

I finally tested one of my Ford NACS adapters with my SE, and it worked perfectly for DCFC. I got almost the full 50 kW rate for the duration of my charge, about 15 minutes up to slightly over 70% SoC. Test was at a ChargePoint DCFC location with both CCS1 and NACS cables.

While the lighter cable was nice, futzing with detaching the adapter from the end of the cable after charging was a bit difficult without dropping everything, so I may stick to CCS1 and only use the adapter when at a location that only has NACS.
