Thanks for the update! Glad it worked out better than quoted. So based on your invoice, was it just the ABS Control module (the actual hydraulic multi valve) or was it the ABS Computer? Just curious what the final out the door assessment was. Also, did they install (maybe didn't document, who knows) the updated -A01. Sorry, being a pilot I am used to very detailed maintenance log entries and tracking of part revision numbers. Just my curiosity. Glad they fixed it for a fair price (I doubt you would have beat that anywhere)!

What is A01?

I will look tomorrow and post that. I’m not sure.
Car runs like a charm now though.


Too bad I can’t do Uber / Lyft now. I’m not risking it.
 
Sorry, in my earlier post I put the part numbers as found on the web (may not be right - again just a guess from your posts). "57111-TRW-A00 is the ABS control module, however there is a note it has been replaced by A01 on the parts list. This is possibly due to a problem with the original A00. Might be worth the questions, and if so - a call to Honda as one of their prototype owners! All they can do is say no."

So that was my question - wondering if they installed the updated part. In my industry (not unique, we just watch it closely) dash number changes are likely due to design flaws discovered in the field. Your ABS failure at that age and mileage was pretty "young" so again, just curious. Let's me know if I have the same dash number to watch for it maybe failing early. (I'd bore you with stories about elevator trim tabs locking up and loss of pitch control due to known "dash number" failures, but hey - pilot fun is just that, shear excitement at times...)

Dude you are making me paranoid! It is funny, because my local dealership took advantage of the opportunity to apply lots of service letters (which they charge Honda for) when I was in for an oil change/state inspection event. However, after one (the range fix version 2) I know they are supposed to reset the car (disconnect the 12v battery for a bit) so the range resets to defaults. This was not done. Seems we here, read the bulletins closer than the techs - and/or it was never applied. I think that Kentucky and others in the HV battery thread may be right. I will be buying one of those $550 diagnostic scanner kits (ODBII) when my car gets close to warranty expiration. It is good to know what is going on before you go in. You can pull a lot out of the headunit as well. Admittedly StickWare's experience is unique, as most of our vehicle's on this forum are still under warranty.... so this is why I was so interested in how the dealership was going to handle this. They seem generally pretty inept when working on these cars beyond very basic (in common with other ICE or "regular" hybrid) common car maintenance and service.

As the work gone is often just firmware patches, I plan to have a separate dealer print out the firmware levels next time I go there for additional work. Since I have decided to change dealers after my last experience. If the dealer doesn't even have a charging station on the property (just one, anywhere... doesn't have to be public...) I figure I shouldn't be going there with a PHEV.

So now my speedometer and odometer are off. Car says I’m going 70mph but I’m really going 74mph.

1 road mile is less than mile on car.

I hope they can adjust this.
 
Wow that is weird... Yes, they can calibrate that - but as to why it is "now" off is really strange. Considering your recent experience I am not going to recommend disconnecting the battery for a few minutes as I bet you have a bit of a flinch response to that. Since it is a new issue there is the chance they will take care of you however if they say it will be a charge, then maybe find someone else. With as much as you drive you may find yourself close to another dealership sometime and get it taken care of then. Until then you are "saving miles" just don't get a ticket over it. Did they do any firmware updates while they had it? Are your service bulletins current? Dude - I got nothing... but given the oddness of your saga I would say the car needs a reboot.

If your car had less miles on it, I'd probably just let it ride. Increases the warranty miles and less miles on the odometer when you trade it. With yours already at nearly 100k miles, I'd probably let them fix it if they didn't charge anything. Else just know you are off by about 5% and manage your speed accordingly to avoid tickets....
 
So the dealership said they can’t test this on their computer because I have the wrong sized tires on.

I got a set of tires used that are 1 in smaller. However when I got them the speedometer was still accurate. I checked.

I’m A math teacher. A smaller tire actually would have the opposite effect I’m seeing. It’s not a 5% error.

they wanted to sell me tires. No thanks. Grrrrr

Just for fun, try a TPMS calibration. Unlikely to work, but since it uses relative tire rotational speed, might be worth a shot....
 
Yes, time to find another dealership - or any mechanic that has a Honda i-HDS subscription and equipment. At this point I would find it reasonable to "try" Bob's big tires and battery shop! Over your current dealer....

If the tires are one inch smaller than spec, then the speedometer should be reading FASTER than you are actually going, not the other way around. The smaller tire will rotate more times in a given distance thereby tricking the system into thinking that you are driving faster than you are.

Exactly what I told them!! They didn’t want to hear it. When I got tires I was worried about this so I tested it with a speedometer app and using mile markers. It was still accurate so that made no difference.

It’s 4-5% off. Geez. Now I have to live with it.
 
I would file a complaint with Honda. Sorry man, you drive a lot and this is a simple computer fix they can do with their i-HDS system. You will drive by another honda or acura dealership and maybe find someone more educated to speak with. I don't think getting them to make it right would ever make up for your time and frustration so maybe paying someone to fix it is worth it. Best wishes.
