iOS 16.1 got rid of all of the permissions prompts (where you have to select the note twice! at the end), but you still have to tap the field for focus. It's a lot better, and almost back to the original usability.

Excellent - I was hoping some of that would get fixed. I had not tried it in a few weeks. Thanks.

I can't believe I just noticed this issue! It seems the humidity is printed wrong, it's expressed as a decimal and a percentage. So in my capture from this morning it logged a humidity of 0.83% when it was actually 83% humidity (yes, really). Also if this ever gets tweaked, dew point would be a nicer value to have, or maybe in addition to humidity. Dew point is the true measure of "stickiness", and gives a real good sense of how much moisture is in the air, thus affecting range.

Although humid air is slightly less dense than dry air, the effect isn't nearly as great as variations in pressure and temperature.

You could of course just calculate the actual density and present it, thus summing up the effect of all three factors on aerodynamic drag.

NB: Shortcuts that use Notes actions are borked in iOS 17.4 beta 1, even the rereleased beta 1. Ugh. I didn't notice until I tried this shortcut after a pleasant 171 km (106 mile) drive that used just 89% – despite starting out at -6°C (21°F) and running on meaty Nokian winter tires.

I have a new video showing off Version 3 of the Range Calculator (IOS Shortcut - sorry, Android peeps). Detailed steps for installing included in the video, plus it works on Apple Watch (with some limitations - see 'breaking news' in the video index).

There are now 4 versions. All of them write to an IOS Note to save your history.
  • Miles + weather
  • Kilometers + weather
  • Miles (no weather)
  • Kilometers (no weather)

We Android users are standing by!

Anyone else having trouble with this on iOS 18.1.1 or iOS 18.1? It seems to hang now when trying to update the notes to save the results.

(Note the orange ring stops at about 2/3 completed.)

I used it a couple of weeks ago and I've been on 18.1b (18.1, 18.1.1, etc) since July, and 18.2b since October. I'll try it tomorrow (18.2b3) and file a report.

I discovered the issue. Not sure if the iOS update clobbered things, but my permissions were messed up and I had to give location permissions to Shortcuts to get weather and stuff. It's working fine now.

I've had to re-enable location permissions for Maps and other things, so somehow my Phone had somewhat of a reset. It's probably just me.
