Hi all. This is my first Honda and have been pretty disappointed with the camera (both rear-view and lane watch) resolution and night performance. Is this a Clarity thing or just my vehicle?
Wash the camera lensI found the backing camera blurry when we bought ours, so I did a test of the other Clarity on the lot before we purchased. It seemed just as blurry, so I assumed it was a feature, not a bug (or at least that there was nothing specifically wrong with the one we were buying). We have loved the car so far, I just don't rely on the backing camera too much at night. I would be curious if others have the same experience.
The same is true of my Model S. The rear camera is super sharp. It looks 4K by comparison to our Clarity. But like you say, the Clarity is a lot cheaper. You can tell when you get into a newer car that comes with "High Definition" cameras. The new BMW's look super crispy.
I don't think i can complain too much with the price of the Honda and what you get...
Unfortunately it’s just the low resolution of the camera, not a plastic film. I actually did look for that when I first got the car, but none was to be found. It is what it is.A few thoughts... Maybe there is a peel off film of plastic that wasn't removed by the dealer. They missed the trunk side film on the lower rear window on ours. If the night time rear camera needs more light, look into increasing the lumen in the reverse light "bulbs."

This is why: <$$$>Its not a major problem, but I wonder why they went backwards compared to the Civic, especially since the Clarity shares many of the Civic's components.....
Our other car is a 2017 Civic, and the resolution of the rear camera is much better than the Clarity. The day we brought the Clarity home, I was convinced there was a plastic film due to the quite evident drop in resolution compared to the civic. Even the lighting of the camera (night time) is poorer compared to the Civic.

Jason, you're probably right. The screen is certainly not a high rez screen. No danger of 4K video ever showing up on our screen!I think the tech on the clarity is about 2 years older than any other Hondas. I don't know why. Why wouldn't it just have the same as the Accord?
It's also not just an HD camera, but lack of HD Screen.
Someone a while back likened the to a "parts bin car" - in other words, it is super sophisticated and high tech as a PHEV, but accessories (cameras, infotainment, lack of cross traffic and side traffic alerts, etc.) resembles "they used what was left in the parts bin from making all their other cars."
