Locking the charging cable to the car

HELP!!!
I just got my Leaf today, plugged it in at home to charge, using appropriate heavy duty outside extension lead etc, and it's charging fine BUT, I can't seem to lock the car. Every time I try to lock it, it beeps at me.

What do I do? URGENT!

When I'm on the road and want to charge (with permission, of course) at a place where I'm staying, I run my EVSE plug into my trunk, then I connect the 100' extension cord to it - in the trunk. I close the trunk and both cords are thereby locked inside the trunk. Having a long extension cord is nice. Just make sure that your trunk will close with your extension cord hanging out of it without issue.
 
I got a lock onto the weather proof box that has a 250v plug for my level 2 charger. So no one can use the plug or take out the charger :)

You can close your trunk with two cables hanging out of it?
 
I really liked Sriyad’s idea, and thought I’d share my variation.

It’s a mini u-lock made to lock motorcycle wheels. It’s got some rubber coating on it to protect from any metal on metal.

Would it be better to place the lock around a metal part of the wheel rim and not just the plastic aero-cap?

Sometimes growing up on a ranch really shows. I got a 12" long 1"x6" piece of wood, screwed attached 2 more pieces to each end leaving a gap in between. I pull into the parking spot almost as far as I want, lay the charger cable in front of the tire, lay the wooden bridge over it and drive up on it. I can have the large part of the charger located behind the tire and I never worry about losing the padlock key. When I first thought of it it seemed time consuming but it actually takes about the same time than looping the cable and lock around.

I've said this before, so I apologize if everyone remembers it, but I took the path of just buying a cheap 120V EVSE that I don't worry too much about someone stealing. I don't usually park in very questionable areas, so my risk is somewhat limited. So far no problems. I've used it mostly at hotels and parking decks where allowed. At least this way, if someone does steal it, they probably won't do any additional damage trying to get it. My exposure is limited to the $65 I paid for the EVSE on Ebay. It is one of the older Volt chargers that has 8A and 12A settings, so you can turn it down to limit possibility of heating or tripping a breaker if you are hanging around long enough. Occasionally these Level 1 EVSEs pop up on Ebay priced below $75, though you may have to be patient and check once in a while to snag one...

I always have this question on L1 charger: why don't they embed the adapter into the car so we can just use a $15 extension cord to plug in? It would be nice to have an extra socket just for that purpose.

Because fools are so ingenious. There are lots of ways to screw up using an extension cord. And, the power shut off on the J1772 handle is a critical safety feature.
