I know there have been some discussions about this before, but I just have to say that my commutes (50 miles one way) have never been more relaxed than now with LKA and Adaptive Cruise. Traffic is usually heavy here, and aside from occasionally bumping the steering wheel to keep LKA going, and really just monitoring what the car is doing, it's like sit back, relax and enjoy.
Of course LKA works under limited circumstances, if the lines aren't clear, or passing an exit where the line disappears to the right, etc, it screws up. But it's much less "work" than constantly providing driving input.

Makes me wonder if I should have bought that M3 with full self driving instead......

Only gripes I have are that LKA doesn't work below 40, and when LKA shuts off when I don't wiggle the steering wheel in time, it just keeps going in a straight line with adaptive cruise going happily. Maybe a crescendo of annoying beeps would be more appropriate instead of shutting it off.
Oh, and a capacitive sensor on the steering wheel to see if your hand is still on there vs. having to push it would be nice too.

What are your experiences with LKA and Adaptive Cruise?

And... Anyone have suggestions for keeping LKA going without wiggling the wheel every 10s?

LKA is fine for me under most conditions. But I don't use the Active setting during trips through mountains. I have found that it won't stay in the center of lanes around curves, and need to constantly intervene.

ACC works well most of the time. But in heavy traffic with stop and go, it lags too much on take-off and people then cut in front. And that is even at the most aggressive settings. My other car (ICE) has a much better ACC and is better in heavy traffic. It also has a much better FCA, and will not brake prematurely like my Kona.

Interesting.. My experience is exactly the opposite with ACC. I agree with you regarding LKA, in more than slight curves, it doesn't work very well. But most of the highways I am on are mostly straight, so it works in my case.

As for ACC, I had that on my previous car (2015 Avalon), and it was super-laggy and wouldn't accelerate. It also didn't go to a full stop. I agree that LKA on the Kona keeps its distance is a little further than I would usually drive, but at the end of the day, you have to weigh it against it stopping in time when you reach stopped traffic.

So, for me it's mostly monitoring what it does and interjecting from time to time. Still much better than not having it.

I agree with Robbert. Same for me. It works great and I just monitor. I don't expect it to follow through curves that are too much for it. It's a cruise control, not an autopilot.

For me it does really good what it's supposed to do.

Also I noticed you just have to slide your hand over the steering wheel when the message comes to keep it active.

This has been discussed. There's no magic clammy hand detector. The system is simply looking for input. The sliding action exerts enough pressure to satisfy it.

When I use it, I keep a slight pressure on the wheel to the right (as it defaults left center). seems to be a good position without applying too much force and satisfies the 15 second "nag" reminder and inevitable disengagement of active SCC/LKA .

Good tip. I'll try that on my way home today. For some reason the LKA seemed to be a little quicker to disable this morning than usual, and the steering wheel shake I usually do every 5 seconds or so didn't trigger it.
It really is too bad it wants to see input from the driver and not just touching the wheel. It would make LKA a lot more enjoyable if you could just keep your hand on the wheel gently and let the car drive itself and only take action if you absolutely needed to...

I had a 2020 Elantra as a loaner as my Kona EV was in the shop. The LKA, despite being a model year "better" was much less refined, more jerky and abrupt. The only good thing about it was that the "keep your hands on the wheel" prompt was much less naggy.

I am curious if anyone has tried the Tesla orange( or water bottle or really any weighted object ) autosteer hack with the LKA. Not advocating disabling a safety system just curious if anyone has tried for the sake of science

Oddly enough in the city,ACC works best because I have a one car length set,and usually don't get cut off.LKA doesn't matter to me in the city given it's such low speed due to grid lock.Highway, I put it on two car lengths,and get cut off.

@Robbert having ACC can be relaxing, especially now that I've learned to collaborate with it Highway,I will push the distance button to slow the vehicle down as I hit stopped traffic,pulling the left tab to brake,foot over brake just in case.Despite being more advanced due to updates.I assure you a Tesla can still have drama with AP...

Automatic cruise is the best in stop and go. You don't have to do anything. It just "follows" the traffic in front of you. Of course you have to steer but I just use the up button on the steering wheel if the stop is too long. Really relaxing driving. I almost wish I get into traffic. [emoji12][emoji1787]

from the driver, however miniscule, to tell it that there's still
human contact. As someone noted here or on some other
forum, steering "perfectly" and doing exactly the same correction
the LKA would have done can still trigger the warning.

The point isn't to make orange juice but exactly what you indicated- provide torque sensor input from a asymmetrical weighting of the steering wheel. There is even a commercial version for Tesla's called" autopilot buddy".

Automatic cruise is the best in stop and go. You don't have to do anything. It just "follows" the traffic in front of you. Of course you have to steer but I just use the up button on the steering wheel if the stop is too long. Really relaxing driving. I almost wish I get into traffic. [emoji12][emoji1787]

Agreed! My last car’s ACC stopped working below 14 mph which was very annoying on my daily 90-mile round trip in heavy traffic. The Kona makes my commute insanely more comfortable.
