My bad luck is notorious among my friends and family. My late mother used to say to me, "Some day your ship will come in. You, however, will be standing at the train station..."

Anyway, my luck (or lack thereof) seems to hold true when it comes to free trials of FSD: The last month-long freebie ended the day before I was to leave on a 3500 mile road trip. The month that I had it I didn't drive farther than five miles from my home.

Tomorrow is our state's Drive Electric event so I just pulled the M3 out of the garage to give it a quick wash and - lo and behold - there's ANOTHER free trial of FSD on-screen! And guess what? It ends the day before I'm leaving on a 3200 mile road trip! Ah well, tomorrow's event is 90 miles away...

Clearly, Tesla's AI is keeping track of your plans and will eventually tease you into spending the big bucks for FSD.

I'm just waiting on the Starship #6 test flight. I missed #5 thanks to the FAA screwup.

Not gonna happen: Some parts of it I like while others are still too "beta"... For example, the "automatic lane change" function is flawless, as it the "recognize and react to traffic lights and signs" function.

Getting to watch the Starship's booster return to, and be captured at, the launch pad would certainly be worth a long trip--especially with FSD allowing me to nap on the drive, er, ride.

On longer trips, I'll catch a cat nap during a longer charging session, 45-60 minutes. Most charging sessions are 15-20 minutes for 1.5-2.5 hour driving segments. With a heavy charge, my next charging session will be shorter, 5-10 minutes.

I did the 1,200 mile trip for Starship #4 but only got to witness the launch through the fog. Parked 6 miles away, the rocket engine, shock waves set off my car alarm (look at the steam/exhaust clouds at liftoff.) The next trip, I'll bring my pistol hearing protectors and try to get closer ... with a cooler of snacks and drinks to wait on any traffic congestion.
