J01 JCW: "Johnny"

Meh, it's the higher and higher beltlines required by side impact standards that's forcing designers to use larger and larger wheels to keep proportions looking good.

I checked out the article and I can now see the issue. Very few pictures are from directly behind. Similar to the model 3, it looks like the J01 is 2 cars. The body is one car, and the windows/roof is another. They look like the top was just glued on to the bottom. The F56 looks like the body progresses into the top, and it is all one car. I think this is what is really bugging me about the aesthetics. Such a little thing, but just seems so wrong.

On the plus side, even after eating from the all you can eat pizzeria, Johnny's PWR is higher than the F56 SE, by about 10%. So long as the tyres / traction control isn't dialed to juvenile mode (ie. we aren't spinning the wheels), you should see a noticeable increase in acceleration. The handling could be a different story - you can't hide 1680kg. Following on from Insightman, I don't know what Sir Alec would make of it. Colin Chapman definitely wouldn't be a fan. "Add lightness". Nah.

My actual guess is that the real JCW will have a big brake kit and 1" lower suspension. Mini has been offering external JCW appearance packages for awhile now, but it's just the body kit and none of the performance parts.
I almost looked at a 2013 S with the JCW appearance package. I dont know the first year it was offered but do know it was available in 2013. Confirmed with the M Decoder.
The latest on the "Johnny" from the MotoringFile.
...So, as I feared, unless the J01 JCW gets special wheels, the only way to tell it from a regular J01 with the JCW trim package will be to take a chip of the Chili Red paint from a brake caliper and have it analyzed to see if it's real MINI paint or just red paint from a rattle-can the owner bought at Ace Hardware...
FYI - Fact: rustoleum red is about a close a match as you can get for Porsche guards/India red on a 1988 944S. Sorry, I dont have any pictures of my handiwork.

It appears the JCW wheels severely restrict brake-caliper sightings, so the color doesn't really matter. Other than weighing the two cars, I've yet to read any way to distinguish a real JCW J01 from a J01 with the JCW trim package.

Motoring File is showing off leaked photos of the J01 JCW. I guess it DOES have pieces that aren't part of the JCW trim package for the regular J01 SE. So maybe they'll change the name of the trim package to "JCW-ish?"

I suppose being pregnant-ish is now a thing!

Anyways, after enhancing the photo of the rear, it looks like 光束汽车 (Guangshu Automobile) or better known as Beam Car. Since that company is not part of Spotlight/GWM and the JCW words are stacked vertical, we would have to respect the wording priority to be Top-Bottom -> Right-Left.

With that in mind, that would make it the Zhjang Barrel Factory (EMF) Couper (EMF) (EMF) Beam Car?

Motoring File has an article about MINI's official reveal of the J01 MINI JCW and the J05 Aceman JCW. For the MINI JCW, the article reports MINI is claiming 0-62 mph in 5.9 seconds, a range of 231 miles (WLTP miles, of course), and a top speed of 124 mph.

Unfortunately, with great power comes great weight. The J01 MINI JCW weighs 3,814 lbs. For comparison, a Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus is listed at 3,862 pounds.

Looks much better in black (very dark grey) than in white (as shown in the leaked photos from the Chinese government agency).

If it's dual motor I'll eat my hat. 240hp, open diff, fwd, still on 7" wide wheels, 3500lb.

Wow I undercut the weight by over 300lb. J01 is a chonkster. No cool diff / handling features, just a gimmicky push to pass mode. I think it looks pretty good but there's not a lot compelling at all.

With the Fiat 500e basically not selling at all I don't suspect BMW is in much hurry to get the J01 here.

Based on the article it sounds like the plans are to bring the J01 to North America in 2026, as soon as the Oxford plant can make them.

...North America won’t initially see the Chinese-made J01 Cooper and J05 Aceman. This should change in 2026 when MINI plans to expand production to its Oxford, UK plant, allowing for North American exports without tariffs.

I think the part that misses the mark is that they are giving a city car a longer-distance car's battery, adding weight and cost. If we go by the pricing in the UK and EU, it will be significantly more expensive than the F56 SE. For that kind of money, buyers will have a plethora of choices in longer-distance cruisers, from the TM3 to any number of Korean cars.

They should have designed it as a city car with a city car battery, reducing the weight and the cost, and upping the fun factor.

Wonder if BMW's 5.9 time to 62 is quoted as conservatively as the F56 SE's 7.3 second run...
Is anybody did a test on 0-60 on forum not relay on BMW specifications to have real timing as I’m seeing 7.3 seconds is not realistic a SE is much faster in my opinion As owner of i3 the timing 0-60 was advertised as 6.3 - 6.8 seconds and SE have slicker shape and if I remember well Motor Magazine run I3 in 5.8 and seconds
