After trying unsuccessfully to order an Ioniq 5 on its Feb 23rd reveal day - like almost everyone in Europe we were faced with a continually crashing web page & I don't think any orders were placed at all. This was all we could see -

Not surprisingly, this link also crashed for the first few hours, but I persevered & eventually managed to enter my details - note that they had removed any kind of reservation fee system & this was now just a page to register your interest.
After not hearing anything by last weekend, and reading that apparently no-one in the UK at all had been selected, I assumed that Hyundai were probably going for the easy option & were making all 3000 Project 45 vehicles available as Left hand drive only - well it almost certainly would keep production costs down.
So for that last few days I'd been going over my other options of EV ownership:-
In no particular order ..... (I lie - this list was my preferred order)
1/ Polestar 2
2/ Tesla Model 3 (AWD Long Range)
3/ BMW i4
4/ Ford Mach-E
5/ VW ID.4
However, I get home today to find the following email

Hi, I was also selected at the second attempt and after a phone call to the VIP hotline who also knew very little but was helpful and I have now paid my £1k reservation fee, I have recently asked about delays due to the various stories about chips and motors and no answer yet, but they think the UK ones will start to arrive in July. Anyway I am currently driving a Ioniq Hybrid SE Premium but after four years I can't wait to get my Ioniq 5 45 in Phantom Black I love the clean lines of the exterior and my nephew said "Jeez that's one mean looking car" and unlike a few others on here I like the clean uncluttered interior which I have requested to be in black and the amount of space looks fantastic, don't know about you but I am registered for a 30 minute Zoom viewing of the Ioniq 5 virtual showroom followed by a 15 minute Q&A session, I also wish I was in Birmingham this week where they will have the first Ioniq 5 in the UK on show. The only thing I am not happy about is the UK Government removing the £3k subsidy so it will now cost £48k. Not sure how many questions we'll have time to get through - guess it depends on the number of people on each viewing.

Thanks deleted as suggested what was I thinking, as for orders 500ish is not a lot to go around the rest of Europe and my dealer said I was the only one they had heard of getting selected and they can't wait to see it. I think the Zoom viewings might just be for the UK as they are on Wed and Thu and then it's on show in Birmingham Fri-Sun, but you're right gazebo and super spreaders and I've only had my first jab.

Yes as far as I know these zoom sessions are just for the UK, and as I haven't seen similar news on other euro forums, it might be logical for one to assume that with any luck we could be the first country to get it ..... maybe

Hi and sorry I should have said North American friends I'm registered for the Zoom showroom tonight at 6pm UK time, apparently they are showing us around a pre production model that has been brought over from mainland Europe and is left hand drive, it sounds like the one they showed in the reveal that is touring Europe. I've still not heard back if the chip and motor shortages will cause any delays to the Project 45's production so maybe will find out tonight.

Well just watched the virtual showroom which gave us a tour of a pre production Ioniq 5 so wasn't the Project 45 which meant it had a vision roof and not the solar panels which will also not be available as an option in the UK, we did learn production has just started and Project 45 cars will arrive late June early July as they are being prioritised for chips and motors which are in short supply worldwide. We didn't see much of the display screens just quick glimpses from a distance but were told the heads up display will make the windscreen a 43" display showing speed and sat nav etc but they couldn't show it on the car they had. Some have asked about rear wipers well there isn't one and there won't be one but they said the spoiler has been designed to deflect rain away from the rear window we'll see. The Ioniq 5 is very connective both Apple and Android supported and from the app you can even tell the car to warm up on a cold morning while you eat your breakfast, you can also check all the basics on your phone like how much charge is left. To sum up we didn't really see any more than we saw on launch and other You Tube videos from Germany, but everyone will be able to watch it on the Hyundai UK web site and YouTube channel from April 25th.

Hi, Yes the Project 45 cars will have the solar panels but after that no one in the UK will be able to have them even on the highest spec model possibly due to the shortage of sunny days in the UK, I think she said the rear seats will only be powered on the Project 45 cars and there are a few other things that will not be an option on future models, I'll watch it again on the 25th to see what I missed. Sorry don't know how many were on the call or how many questions which had to be messaged in to them and then they selected a few to answer but said all others will be replied to via email, some questions were answered adequately but others she couldn't remember the answer such as which batteries were being used but someone messaged in and let them know it was the SK Innovation, another question was about the tyres which will be Michelin, maybe on todays zooms more questions will be answered and included in the video on the 25th.

• Roof will appear "Opaque from Inside" & "Very Dark" - (still not sure if this means car will have headlining or glass)

Also:-

• Smart LED headlights with Auto dipping
• Fixed ground clearance (no air suspension)
• Heat pump fitted as standard
• Load of 80-100Kg can be fitted to roof - although they were unsure of exactly what roofbars
• 8 yr or 100,000 miles Battery warranty
• 73Kwh battery -268 miles range
• Rear motor = 155Kw, Front Motor = 70Kw - - Max 605Nm torque
• No heated elements built into front screen - it just relies on heater vents
• No equivalent dashcam as such - No method of recording any of the cameras
• Digital Side Mirrors will not be available at Launch - only currently being an option for the Korean market
• OTA updates for maps & software not available immediately - maybe later after being activated at dealers
• No wifi built in - Just relies on your phone signal
  
• Full feature spec for UK version available at end of May - Cars should be at dealers end of June /early July

Sounds like you got a few more answers than we did maybe they added in answers for the questions we asked, I was surprised and disappointed that there will be no built in dash cam you would think all new cars would have them. We were told the maps will update from launch but they are working on the software updates for sometime in the future she also said they are looking at wifi as an update later but wasn't sure. Was that the solar roof appearing opaque and very dark or the standard glass roof on non project 45 cars I will be surprised if the solar panels are glass on the inside, we were told there is nowhere to attach any roof bars which is probably due to the glass/solar roof so as it takes up to 100kg I'd better not climb on top.

Anyway, Just watched my 2nd zoom session aimed at Non-Project 45 would be owners ( which they mistakenly gave me the link to)
Picked up a few more interesting titbits (was hastily writing notes so may have the odd thing wrong):-

• Service plans will be available from dealers at launch which will be noticeably cheaper than standard ICE cars.
• Confirmation of a "sportier" version yet to come down the line (guessing it will have some of the EV6 kit)
• No option of pull up curtains on rear side windows - (I do think they're on the P45)
• Wallbox will not be included, but they give some sort of discount with their recommended suppliers (Hotpoint? & BP Pulse)
• Lightest version (2WD small Batt) = 1910Kg, Heaviest version (4WD Big Batt)= 2370Kg
• Towing (up to 1600Kg) only available on 'Long range version'
• No test drives available before June
• No Pricing until May
• Suspension (Hard / Soft - Speed / Comfort) will be related /adjusted dependent on which variant.
• Drag Coefficient = 0.288
• "Charge My Hyundai" App (with a £1.99 RFID), will give discounts with charging partners (Presently BP Pulse & Ionity) with the Ionity price to be discounted from 70pKwh to 25p Kwh
• Screens have a Dark mode for night driving (not sure if it can be selected during day)
• Autonomy Level 2 (Think this might be an option with the "Tech Pack")
• As everyone had been asking about WIRELESS Apple Car Play & Android Auto - she will be going back to Hyundai to tell them how highly people feel about it to see if it can be activated (as opposed to getting data via smartphone)

I would have hoped the advertised AWD feature would have been switchable to save on range,
kind of disappointing if this is not the case. The mention of 4WD by the Zoom chat video hopefully is a mistake.

At the top of the electric motor lineup is an all-wheel drive (AWD) option paired with the 72.6-kWh battery, producing a combined power output of 225-kW and 605 Nm of torque. This PE configuration can go from 0 km/h to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds.
mention this AWD feature- not 4WD , and of course no mention of switchable, or directed to rear or front as required.

Random american commenter here, but the confusion between AWD and 4WD is probably partially because the E-GMP's AWD system is a bit unusual. Exactly how it works hasn't been made clear through other sources, but the front motor can be physically disconnected from the wheels (Reportedly improving efficiency a bit). So it's kind of a part time AWD system.

Hyundai keep telling us that you can get a full charge in 18 minutes at Ionity 350kw chargers but there are currently only 14 in the UK with 2 under construction and plans for a total of 40 which isn't a lot, my nearest is 37 miles away in Blackburn which is not somewhere I go often and I would have thought it would have been better placed on an M6 service station for longer journeys, there are a few 150kw chargers being constructed by BP Pulse but the vast majority of the fastest chargers currently in the UK are 50kw, so does anyone know how long my sleep in the reclining seat will be to fully charge or get a boost. From the virtual showroom I do remember Sylvie mentioning that Project 45 owners will get 2 years free charging at Ionity chargers so maybe I will have to move to Blackburn or Leeds which is 52 miles away to make use of it

I'm in Telford Shropshire so my nearest Ionity charger is also in Blackburn - 93 miles away!!
There aren't even any within the M25 (motorway which encircles London).
They've got to start signing up partnerships with all the larger providers, not just the high power ones.

Right I may have my answer courtesy of Google on how long to charge at a 50kw with figures for a Tesla which maybe be similar to the Ioniq 5 charge speed.....

PUBLIC charging times for a Tesla Model 3 with a 55 kWh battery on a 50 kW charger: From 0% to 80% on a 50 kW public charger: 53 minutes From 25% to 80% on a 50 kW public charger: 36 minutes From 50% to 80% on a 50 kW public charger: 20 minutes.

So 20 minutes minimum to get a decent top up for a longer journey, I go up to the Lake District a lot and have found out that Booths supermarkets have Instavolt 50kw chargers so that's me happier. I just think that if you are going on a long journey you would charge up at home and then half way down the M6 you want to top up but there are no Ionity 350kw chargers to be found, so as Restyler says his closest is the same as mine in Blackburn, there may be a reason for this but I can't figure it out they should be on the motorways where most long journeys take place, just in case our North American friends don't know our motorways are your Interstate highways and the M6 is our longest at 226.7 miles and there is one Ionity charger at Gretna Green at the border with Scotland and then one off the M6 at Blackburn then none until you leave the M6 and join the M1 and continue to Milton Keynes 177 miles from Blackburn where you have to leave the motorway to reach your next Ionity, now I know they say there's a 250 mile range with the batteries but that is under perfect conditions with perfect driving so I don't think Restyler and myself will be taking much advantage of the 2 year free charging with Ionity.
