I tested the top speed of my Mini SE

Hey Guys and Gals!

Yesterday I took my car to a very secluded spot and tested the top speed. We all know the car is listed as 93mph top speed restricted. Well, after numerous runs, the car repeatedly topped out at 95mph. Also, it pulls quite hard all the way to top speed, then reduces power to stay at 95mph.

It has alot more power than the 95mph speed would dictate.

Matt

Right on, thanks for driving to "mexico" to test this out Matt. ;-)

My Smart ED is similar, pulls right up to the max 130 km/h and throttles there, it's at 17000 RPM at that speed, a bit loud for sure.
I've heard "from good sources" that even an old 2013 Model S like mine pulls hard to 220 km/h ...

Hypertech and Superchips are probably already working on tuner chips that will take the SE to triple digits (warranty be damned!)

I wonder what kind of range the SE can deliver at 95 mph? A Bugatti going 253 mph burns through a full tank of gas in 46 miles, which takes all of 11 minutes, but a thrilling 11 minutes, I'm sure.

it's quite different cause the 93mph is electronically limited. I'd say you're using maybe 25-30% of the 135kW maximum power at the stabilized 93mph (I've done ~93mph in a 55hp specifically Peugeot 106 1.0l ). it's a small car with a decent drag coefficient. that would mean about 45-55 minutes of runtime and 70-85 miles range

Am I crazy or wouldn't this be limited by motor rpm not power? We've only got one speed and it's not like we're huge hp three or four motor cars that can be geared long.

I wonder if Matt still owns his SE?

If not, did he put the pre LCI bumper back on, or did he sell it with the ICE version he replaced it with?

Years ago Matt traded it in for a F60 Countryman PHEV because his wife had to to travel from IL to MN to look after an aging parent. I'm pretty sure they got a good trade in value..for the same price of what they bought the SE.

Thanks for that tidbit.

So that raises another question: does the person who owns it now realize that their car had its own mini-Warhol moment (pun intended) as one of the first face-swapped SEs?

Inquiring minds want to know!
