How many folks had the H-IDS battery capacity test performed by the dealer?

I keep reading the same one or two folks had the test but no one else reports that they have...or if they did...have not provided the numbers.

My vehicle was manufactured in January of 2018. Sat on dealers lot for 93 days before I purchased. Battery was at 2 bars when it was purchased.

Paperwork shows 54.9 as the reading prior to delivery.

Anyone else want to share their experience?

Where can you check the manufacturer date?

Mine is hard to read and says:


5(F?)41W-M1W2J or something like that, its hard to read the hand writing

Also just noticed that we never did the final inspection page at all so its all blank :P
 
The manufacture date is on the metal plate on the driver’s door jamb.

I’ll have the dealer run the battery capacity check once a year when I take the Clarity in for its annual service. That will be next spring for the first one.

That's a good idea. Do the dealers charge for testing it?

Great thread Clarity_Newbie. I will have mine checked when I go in for the latest updates. Not sure when that will be. Back in the summer I actually had my electric water valve replaced but completely forgot to ask them to check it while I was there.

I took mine back in 4 months after purchase and 6 m after mfg (car mfg date 11/17) to have the BCS checked. It was 54.3 (Nominal is 55 Amp hours). So OK, but I bet I lost a little bit of my battery by it not being charged regularly.
Honda is doing a disservice to us all by not training the dealers on the Clarity AND not following up on their compliance.

That's one of those "Is the Pope Catholic?" questions ;) My dealer charges for everything, so I expect a charge for battery testing. Sooner rather than later, I expect a charge just for making an appointment:rolleyes:
 
My dealer did the test for free since it was supposed to be done per the PDI. Subsequent ones are in a gray area. I wouldn’t expect to get one for free unless I had a significant drop in EV range within the 8 or 10 yr battery warranty and then needed it to ascertain if the degradation was enough for a warranty claim.
 
I bought my Clarity from a high volume dealer. They had over 60 new cars being picked up on a Monday which is probably their busy day due to weekend sales and DMV paperwork. I think they did squat. No plugs, no test. Can you ask them to take a picture of the test? Otherwise, they could fake it.

I asked for a copy of the test and my service advisor was kind enough to print out a picture of the diagnostic screen for me.

I had the battery capacity signal test performed during the PDI process. I have asked the dealer I purchased from if they would be willing to conduct another one for informational purposes. To my surprise, they agreed since they said it would be interesting to see what difference there is after 6 months and beneficial for the learning curve.

Since the original was performed during PDI...I have no time reference how long the second test should take. The service manger indicates 1.5 hours is required to do the I-HDS diagnostics to get the results. From the outside looking in that seems like an awful long time for the computer to check a signal.

What was your experience when you had yours done 4 months later time wise? I assumed 10 minutes or less for the recheck using the I-HDS diagnostics.

I brought it in for the HV Range bug fix and they did that and the Battery Capacity Signal and I was out in about an hour. I don’t know how long it actually took.
