My odometer on the app hasn't updated since March 12th. Approximately every 2 weeks, all of the features say "unable to retrieve information" so I have to log off and log back in and then it will update my battery range information. When I am in the car and press Hondalink on the center screen, it tells me to follow the instructions on the phone. Since I already have the app, the phone does not give me any instructions. Maybe there is a step I missed when I set up the app because I just went to the app store and purchased it, added my vin and set up the account. I have never used the in-car system and now the app is very unreliable.
@Candice,
I’m sorry you’re having problems. As long as your phone and Clarity can both gat a good cellular signal, then it should update and all features should work.
Here are some things to try:
1. Check cellular signal on phone and car. On the Clarity, it appears at shut down on the DDI (display behind steering wheel). You’ll see “TCU, an antenna icon and strength bars. It also displays on the Head Unit (center touch screen) at the top next to GPS and phone battery icons as antenna icon and bars. Check it where you park your car as the car sends updates when it turns off if milage has gone up enough.
If both have good signal, they should be able to reach Honda’s server so communication is possible.
2. Check the GPS signal strength. At the main Nav screen (Select Home then Navigation) there is a set of signal strength bars for the GPS on left side. They increase and change color from amber to green when you get a good signal. Also the (satellite) icon at top will stop blinking. This signal is used by the locate my car feature. The antenna is in the dash so item on the dash may block this signal.
3. Try uninstalling and reinstalling the app on your phone to make sure there is not a problem with the install.
Use this link to be certian you’re installing the Honda Link for the Clarity as there are several on the Apple App Store and only one is for our Claritys. (Make sure Clarity is selected and scroll to bottom for the link to the Apple App Store)
Honda site on HL w link to App Store:
https://hondalink.honda.com/#/compatibility?year=2018&model=Clarity Plug-In Hybrid
Install and set up as usual. Double check the VIN # is correct.
4. If still not working, reset the center Head Unit by holding down the audio power button (top L) until you get the reset message. Car must be on.
5. If all else fails and as a last resort, do a hard reset by disconnecting the negative cable to the battery for a few minutes (with car off).
6. If none of this works, then try calling the Honda In-Car Tech Support at
888 528-7876.
There have been mixed results posted as to the quality of help received, but when I called I got great help. And others have posted they helped when the dealer put the wrong info in the system.
And you can try a dealer; who knows, you might find one that actually knows something about it. (Miracles do happen)
Hope this helps and let us know how you got it working.
