Honda Clarity was hit with the ugly stick...but net cost over looks!

I hate to rain on the automotive artist’s parade, but the rear wheel covers or spats or whatever you call them are there for aerodynamics and not stylistic beauty.

The only way the Clarity works is because of its aerodynamics, light weight (yes I know it’s a 2 ton car, but it could be worse), and regenerative braking. It’s a very involved and complicated calculation and trade off between all the factors of weight, engine size, battery capacity and cost, overall price, etc. Not to mention designing one platform for BEV, FC, and PHEV.
Thankfully for all of us, Honda got it right.

And if that takes having covers on the rear wheels, then I don’t mind. Personally, the Clarity is growing on me visually. I think it looks quite sleek and very unsedan like. As I’ve posted earlier, the Prius says beat me up and take my lunch while the Clarity says come fly with me. I also like that it is still unique and I have one of the very few on road here in coal country.
I just got my first oil change at the dealership. I think the salesmen got tired of hearing me brag about the clarity. When i opened the hood to check thier work i started noticing the many little things honda did to reduce weight. The 12v battery is the smallest i have ever seen in a car. And even the radiator cap is very tiny. They managed to cram a gas, and a large electric motor under that hood. An amazing feat of engineering.
All the comments i have recieved about the looks of my car are very positive.

My daughter finally met my new Clarity and says it looks like a super villain, one with no redeeming sympathetic backstory. She is now banned, but my granddaughter and I like it.

My feeling about cars is that if they move when you put them in drive then they look just fine.

What could be more sympathetic than reducing the consumption of non-renewable resources in an effort to save the Earth's ecosystems?

I've thought of going to hang around the Honda dealer and dragging people over to see the Clarity. Larger numbers can only help all of us, and way too many people are not being exposed to this car.
Some folks here saw it advertised on TV at the 2018 Super Bowl or something like that. I saw it at the LA Auto Show 2019 and it was enough to hook me up. Besides some YouTube videos, there's no Honda advertising for Clarity whatsoever.

Being a big fan of Honda cars, I frequent the Temple of VTEC website. I paid close attention to that site after rumors surfaced in 2016 that Electric and Plug-In Hybrid variants of the Clarity Fuel Cell were in the works. I immediately told my dealer I wanted a Plug-In Hybrid, but you know dealers: if it isn't on the lot, they're not interested. However, when the car became a reality, they did the right thing and added a few Level 2 EVSEs that customers could use. The mechanic who always worked on my Insights learned all about the Clarity, too.

Initially, I didn't think the Clarity Fuel Cell was very good looking, but I like the small changes Honda made to the Fuel Cell's exterior for the PHEV. Our Clarity's looks have really grown on me. Perhaps if I didn't like driving it so much, I wouldn't like the way it looks.
