My first EV was BMW I 3 2014 model with 22 kWh or 60 Ah battery with 81 miles range .car was excellent and after 7 years I was able to do about 72 miles with right road conditions. In 2017 BMW upgrade to 94 Ah or 33 kWh /27,2 kW usable power and a range get to 115 miles what we have on our Mini SE today. But in 2019 BMW put in I3 in a same space !!! 120 Ah battery with 42,2 kWh and a range of 153 miles but in SE is no room to upgrade that car is T shape battery which restrict any upgrade .But make you happy in I 3 you can’t upgrade to bigger battery .you can only replace battery with battery car come from factory. That first model of I 3 will cost you only $16000 and I believe all of them after that or more .To me means if you drive SE 10 years that will be your cost but at that time mini will be a chicken cup in a backyard. Now on a good mood in Austria which work with BMW I was able to change a battery in my I 3 only for $60000 with range of 435 miles how we like that ? I don’t have a$60000 to do crazy **** .New SE from China with different platforms is still giving us a range 200 miles for a driving they selling us old technology but that they do to us .CRAB .My Mini Se is a blast to drive I don’t need range once I retired .Perfect go kart for me .Once I drive I 3 I read everything about it and some researchers were saying after 16 years of driving a EV as BMW I 3 the same SE you should have still about 50% of your original range . Very upholding! Thank you to read my crab about Ev

That's very interesting. I think it bodes well for the future, like in 10 years when my SE batteries need replacing. But will I even be driving the car by then?

BMWI3 is not building any more I 3 is closing factory in Dresden in July and that car was most advenced car as EV completely build from carbon fiber My I3 was 2600 lbs and a 2014 model was a fastest car from all I 3 after that .

@Rexsio, did your i3 even have passenger seats after you pared it down to 2,600 lbs?

I'm sure you know that the SE uses Chinese CATL batteries instead of the Korean Samsung batteries used in the i3. The CATL batteries may not have more advanced chemistry than the i3's Samsung batteries, but MINI claims they work better in cold weather.

No one can know what batteries will cost in 10 years, but if no other manufacturer ever produces a small, sporty EV to compete with the SE, there will be a market for replacement SE batteries--and a market for used MINI Cooper SEs.

Every year I 3 was getting heavier a model 2014 was a lightest from all of them and I’m of by 34 lbs this is specification for 2014 and SE is 550 lbs heavier 45564147-3339-476F-829A-89211EFE6D7C.webp

As i3 in 8 years build 250000 units nobody ever replace batteries maybe single cells but after market is only recycling crash cars to reuse those batteries. As use old batteries from EV,s we are nowhere I never heard anybody is using them for house back up system or something else I could be wrong but we are in flinston era

A car build of gasoline chassis is dinosaur to be electric only bmw I 3 was developed from bottom up by BMW

I'm so happy with my dinosaur SE that I can't imagine the bottom-up development of the 2024 SE will make the car so much better that I'll want to switch.

I should mention that my 2021 SE's 110-mile range is good enough for me--especially because the small battery keeps the car's weight to only 550 lbs more than a 2014 carbon-fiber i3. I know it probably won't happen, but I hope in 10 years there's an affordable solid-state Li-Ion battery pack replacement made for the SE that weighs 550 lbs less than the OEM battery.

I'd rather see a proliferation of air cooled 50kW DC fast chargers across the continent than a handful of 350kW liquid cooled stations. 110-miles is plenty especially when TFL Truck is getting 0.7mi/kWh in a 131kWh Ford F-150 lightning ext. range while towing a trailer.

So far for any EV on market no privet business try to build replacement high voltage batteries only big company’s but I get my replacement for my Dyson vacuum cleaner means we going to get there one day and like you said my SE is perfect car to drive around bc I retired don’t need milages I charge every 2 weeks and a car do a job for me and I laugh at my neighbors paying $6 for gas maybe soon $10

Carbon fiber is 5 times lighter than steel as you know and my seats were in a car and before Covid hit as I was 30 lbs lighter

I really love my mini, 1 yr. 10k miles and not one problem. I've never had a new car that didn't have at least one problem if not more in the first yr. My jeep just sits there feeling sad I don't drive it.

I love my SE too great car the only complain is a rear hatch my garage is below living room when I close a hatch slam I wake up my cat a **** is build of lead so heavy for no reason my bigger SUV,s make no such loud noise

As I loaded my bike gear today at 6 AM and closed the hatch, I noticed how freaking LOUD the hatch is when it closes! Hope I didn't wake the neighbors.
