High registration fees?!

Way off topic, yes, but just to clarify: a vehicle turning across traffic must always yield to any vehicles going straight, even if the turning car arrived at the intersection first, whether it’s a stop sign or traffic light; if it’s at a stop sign, imagine that it is a light that just turned green — the turning vehicle has to wait for those going straight in the opposite direction to clear the intersection before it can turn.

Well, my day of reckoning is finally here. This month I will have to pay the "new" $200 annual fee to register my BEV MINI SE again for another year here in TX. However, the TX Legislature did finally repeal the mandatory annual inspection requirement for all cars as of Jan 1, 2025, so at least that will go away. (Interestingly, the tailpipe emission inspection requirement (but not the "safety" inspection) remains in place in urban counties, but that of course excludes BEV vehicles.) But I still object to the outlandishly high $200 registration "fee" said to just "replace" average gas taxes paid by ICE vehicle owners, when that amount is far higher than the actual annual road taxes paid by ICE drivers in this state.

I understand the need to fund road repair and construction. But in a more perfect world, the fee would consider the vehicle weight and the annual miles traveled.

I have my WA renewal in front of me. $596.25.

$273 is a Regional Transit Authority tax based on value (I'm just inside the southern border of the Region and my whole county gets very little benefit of this b.s.)
$150 Electric vehicle fee (funds road, street and highway maintenance)
$75 Electric vehicle transportation fee (supports electric vehicle infrastructure--MY RAV4 HYBRID NON-PLUG IN PAYS THIS TOO!!)
and the rest is misc. fees from $10 to $30 each.

Yikes! That cost is astronomical! I guess I should be happy that the TX extra "fee" for BEV registration is only $200 ... but I'm not actually happy about it.
