GM fast DC charger stories

Stopped at Pilot Flying J at Hayti MO for a ‘sanity’ charge and saw a couple with a new Model 3. One asked if they could get a charge at the GM. CCS-1 charger? I told them I would help after bathroom break and let’s chat in the fast food restaurant.

Two week owners, I told them about the CCS-1 adapter; PlugShare; Tesla Owner’s and InsideEV, and; the EV, ABCs (Always Be Charging.) I also shared other EV tricks. By then, i had enough charge. So I had them stop my charging and use my adapter to get a charge.

Later on my way to Memphis, range on a cold night was getting low so I used the new Pilot Flying J, another GM CCS-1, in West Memphis. It only had CCS-1, brand new, and no CHAdeMO. With four independent charging plugs, couldn’t one be a Tesla?

I also noticed they are expensive compared to Superchargers, almost double the kWh rate. For a bridge the gap, minimum charge, OK but not an affordable cross country.

My understanding from watching Youtube videos by tNAC covering the project is that Pilot (a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway) calls the shots, GM is an investor, and EVgo provides charging as a service at Pilot, Flying J, and other miscellaneous locations. The locations were originally designed to meet NEVI requirements. I have not heard whether they plan to begin adding J3400 plugs like other CPO's, including EVgo https://www.evgo.com/press-release/...alls-live-today-hundreds-more-coming-in-2026/.

Pilot is one of my preferred charging networks. We like to stop there because they have a high percentage of canopies, windshield washers/fluid, trash cans, 24/7 bathrooms, on travel corridor with locations almost always right at the interchange, and a variety of food options (though we get our meals elsewhere). I am 25 for 25 (at 15 locations in 6 states) with arriving, finding an open stall, plugging in with EVgo Autocharge+, and having an easy session with the car getting all the electrons it wants.

BTW, I doubt that they monitor comments on this forum. For those interested, here is the Pilot website feedback page
