EV-only operation question

Suppose I were to continue to drive my 2018 clarity PHEV locally and just stopped putting gas in the tank. Eventually, I would burn all the gas and it would run only on the battery, albeit at reduced power. With the vehicle software allow me to run it like that indefinitely? Has anybody tried this?

Once the tank is actually empty, a "power system failure" warning will come up on the display, and it will beep at you constantly until you refill the tank. I know of no way to turn off that warning. But, if you just turn it off and back on again, and avoid hitting the accelerator hard enough that it tries to turn on the gas... Also, it'll probably complain about not being able to do its regular "maintenance" gas cycles.

That sounds like a really terrible idea. Not only for proper operation, but it would ruin the resale value, which is still considerable - about $10K - $12K. My engine came on the other day while in EV mode, and while I initially didn't like it, I have learned to trust the Honda engineers who have made this car so reliable.

Plus, you never really know when you may need to use the engine - an emergency may come up, and you need to drive hundreds of miles. I understand you are just spitballing here ... but why bother to even go there?

You will run out of gas and the car will stop driving. Even if you keep it in EV mode, if you accelerate hard, it will kick on the engine.

There is no way to LOCK it in EV mode. Hence the car having to have gas no matter way.
