Holy ****, that guy's got some nerve.
Strike through every single item you listed that has a bullet in front of it. That's what you pay. If you want any of the other stuff, buy it aftermarket; it will probably be cheaper and I'd do it away from the dealer just for his trying to bend you over, like that.

The extended warranty is definitely not worth getting. Ask what it covers, but I asked (knowing full well it was pointless) and it covers drivetrain and things like oil changes and spark plugs. None of that applies to the SE.

There are basically three maintenance items on an electric vehicle: tires, brakes, and wiper blades. Tires and brakes aren't covered by warranties anyway.

The high voltage batteries have a 100,000 mile warranty that the extended warranty won't help. The 12V battery is kind of pricey when you replace it (around $500 because it's AGM), but again I don't think covered by warranty. And I doubt the 12V battery will need to be replaced more than once in the lifetime of the car, since it's not used to start anything. I've only had to replace the 12V battery in each of my ICE MINIs at most once per 100,000 miles.

Gap is to cover difference in car value and outstanding loan when you trade it in, up to you if it's worthwhile.

The coating stuff is another personal call. Depending on the conditions you plan on driving in, it might be worth getting. I got the protective coating for my hood because of the high number of freeway miles and gravel roads I drive on. As @F14Scott points out, you can shop around for cheaper. I did it through my dealer to get it done and throw them a bone since I know they'll get virtually nothing out of me for service.

All of those items are dealer-installed, OPTIONAL extras. If you want those items, you can either pay their asking price or negotiate. If you don't want those items, tell the dealer you don't want them and will not pay for them (especially any items that you don't know what they are).

I like paint protection film, but cannot advise on whether that's a good price or not since it doesn't say how much coverage is provided. Ask them how much coverage is provided, then call around to local tint shops that also install paint protection films for comparison (unless you want to reject that outright and go aftermarket).

I, personally, would reject the other items.

I assume "Gap" refers to gap insurance. Ask your car insurance agent if their policy includes this or not. If they do, you don't need to pay the dealer for it, too.

Tax and registration fees are not negotiable.

EDIT: Oh, and don't forget to deduct the $500 online order deposit from the downpayment!

Say NO to Perma Plate 7, Dealer Prep Star Guard, New Warranty 7yr/75k and Clear mask. If you need GAP insurance, credit unions sell them for less money.

Also, be sure to recheck the tax and registration fees you owe. Dont give them a dime they dont deserve..

Thanks, all, confirms what I was thinking. I haven't purchased a car since 2009 so I'm a little rusty with dealer-added invoicing. Thank goodness I found this forum...I wonder if the dealer will at some point, too? I'm guessing not due to the small percentage of EVs MINI sells.

I wouldn't do warranty, and the interior guard and exterior coating is down to your preference (I'm not thinking I'll be driving behind salt spreaders in winter) gap is only necessary if you are financing more than 80% LTV and for more than 36mo in my opinion as you'll have enough equity to cover total loss at the start and be paying it off faster than it depreciates. All that is completely moot if you pay cash of course.
 
And yes, as others have said your credit union or bank doing the financing will be able to do gap for cheaper.

Pardon me if I'm not a believer in dealer add-ons. I paid for just the car + destination/handling (and, of course, the required State of Michigan add-ons). I don't need two warranties in addition to the 3-year warranty. Put the $5,299 they want for warranties in the bank and self-insure your car. Aren't electric cars supposed to be more reliable than explosion-powered cars? Remember, the 7-year warranty isn't really a 7-year warranty because it doesn't start after your 3-year warranty expires, it starts at the same time.

Just the name "Star Guard" is suspicious--probably some kind of spray on the seats that protects them from stars? Clearmask--if it's so good, why doesn't it come from the factory? I must admit that I'm too lazy to look up what Clearmask actually is, but of all the add-ons you listed, it's the easiest to guess what it is. If you get a ding fixed at the body shop, will they add a new coat of Clearmask after the repair is painted?

I'm surprised they didn't offer you a discount oil-change package, too.

I’m glad you said it. I got angry reading that list of charges. Holy crap they are trying to pillage.
 
@TittaPDX. Oh boy, good old Mini of Portland! Definitely be firm with them and refuse everything you don’t want. I agree with the advice others have given you. Not much there to say yes to.

Also, thanks for the heads up. My SE arrives in about two weeks and then they’ll be trying to sell me all that stuff. I’ll be prepared.
