Oh, snap! It was a fakeout!
They had the right ETA, but the wrong port. Looks like the boat actually IS going through the Canal today!

That's what I saw when I tracked it earlier.

GvilleGuy - did my boat jump yours? The Serenity Ace location is live and Niagara Highway is 4 hours old. But still....View attachment 11348
I know a separate thread...but what charger did you newbies get?
I ordered the Juicebox 40 but it’s delayed too so a race to see which gets here first, the car or the charger.

You appreciate L2 more after living the L1 life for a while. Also, you now have a tested L1 charging cable, which we lazy L2-firsters don't have. (Did we ever find out if/how @Tommy Electric's charging problems were resolved?)I got the Grizzl-E. But I didn't get it installed until a month after having the SE, so I struggled to keep charged that first month. Way better to have it before the car comes.

With 3-4 days until ‘exterior body assembly begins,’ I am exploring portable EVSE options.
My community has complimentary ClipperCreek L2s so I’m set at home.
My in-laws (who live right at the edge of the SEs range) have a NEMA 14-50 outlet prepared for the MINI. I’m thinking of getting a Gen 2 Tesla Mobile Connector with a TeslaTap Mini (to J1772) to keep in the SE’s boot. This would let me charge at my in-laws’ and open up Tesla destination chargers as well.
Wish List: BMW Group should provide a like complimentary/portable L2 EVSE with the 22 MINI SEs.
Would they surprise us? [emoji3166][emoji1317][emoji1695]They should start with mine as it rolls through the assembly line. #yolo
hmm, interesting. I own a model 3 but so far haven’t been able to charge at home as we are in an apartment complex. We’re moving this month to a townhouse with 5-20 nema outlets in an attached garage though which should be a nice upgrade over no home charging. I had resigned myself to the MINI not being able to take advantage of 5-20 though, but since I already have a mobile connector a Tesla tap might be a nice option. Would that work to get the mini the full 120@16 amps?
I have good news and bad news. The good news in my freaking ship finally docked in Baltimore after the longest Atlantic crossing in modern history. The bad news is, I need this ship to dock in Brunswick, Georgia before I get my new Mini. So that means you have not heard the last of me tracking the "Niagara Highway".
Would it work? Yes.
Will it be slow? Also yes.
With a NEMA 5-20 outlet, you will nominally draw 120V x 16A = 1,920 watts or 1.9 kW. For the SE, that’s 18+ hours to charge from empty.
If the garage has a power panel in it, it might be worth considering adding a 240V outlet (and for proper Level 2 charging). If you are renting, maybe help the owners understand they get a tax break with upgrading for EV charging. Hope this helps
EDIT: Worth joining the MINI Charging: EVSE and Home Charging conversation for more on this. // If the NEMA 5-20 is all you've got, you should make ends meet with the included Level 1 charging kit.
like I said, I have zero charging right now for my model 3 and it’s fine, plenty of charging around town (I have a chademo adapter for it) and I work from home at the moment. If that changes I have charging at work too. Level 2 chargers are kind of overkill, but obviously would be nice. Definitely not necessary though.
My question is can I use a Tesla tap and a Tesla mobile charger to get more than 10 amps (the limit on the normal level 1 cable the mini comes with) when I charge my mini on a nema 5-20.
