Found this on another forum:

I don't think this has anything to do with SIM or app. I've received a letter about this and according to my dealer it's about an update of the SOS function. Apparently, at an accident, our EVs don't tell the SOS-operator that it is in fact an EV. That is an important information for rescue teams since they have special ruless due to the batteries and high voltage.

Pretty much what Insightman said.

I am in the SF Bay area. I asked the dealer to not install the plate holder, and they complied. There is a risk, as front plates are required in CA, but in my experience (and my area) the police don't pull you over for this violation, but they will issue a 'fix it' ticket if you are pulled over for something else and they notice---which they will.

Thank you! Awww let me think about it… love not to have front plate but at the same time I am too chicken [emoji28]

In California you can get a Front License Plate Wrap for 85 bucks.

here's a video of someone putting it on their Tesla.
It's legit. You do have to tell the company after you put it on so they put the license plate on their registry if DMV ever checks.

But as @Ketos found, the license-plate wrap is taller than the vertical part of the SE's front bumper. He had to trim and tuck to make it fit.

@Tommm had a great solution for his Cayman. He took a picture of his 6" x 12" plate and had a 5" x 10" bumper sticker made. IMO, the ideal (other than living in a single-plate state) would be a 5" x 10" license-plate wrap because it would be easier to remove when necessary.

My Mini got delivered to the dealer over the weekend after the Heritage Leader docked in Oxnard last Friday. However, they said something about the SOS switch needing to be replaced and reprogrammed, have any of you heard of this? Now I am back to waiting again. They initially called it a recall but it does not show up on the Mini site.

I was told the same thing from my dealer. Waiting for a fix from BMW direct. My car has been stateside since June 17th.

Here ya go. Ten bucks. 20211017_143645.webp

Were you able to pick up? Curious as to how long it took. Mine arrived yesterday with a batch of others. They do PDI in order, and part of it includes fully charging it.

Still haven't been able to pick up due to this SOS issue. MA is saying they're having trouble connecting to the BMW server to update it? Dunno

Hawaiian Highway docked in Brunswick this morning with my wife's SE iconic on board. The dealer called me (finally) and said the car will be at the dealer on Saturday and will be ready for collection on Wednesday.

Swung by the dealership today and their Rex screen still shows Status 193, so I have to wonder if it’s still sitting at Southampton for five weeks now, and somehow missed the only two vessels bound for Halifax in June, or if it’s actually at the VPC and we missed it being 195.

Has anyone noticed discrepancies between the information found on the Southampton Movement schedule and the Wallenius Wilhelmsen website? For example, Southampton has the Tannhauser departing for New York on 30 June, but the WW Website shows Tannhauser is scheduled to go directly to Baltimore.

That sucks. My dealer doesn’t reference the status codes at all so I don’t know where she gets the info about my MINI. I tried asking for more info when it initially went into production and was told she didn’t have more and she would notify me once it shipped. I’m not sure if I’ll get an update from her once it’s off the ship and waiting for/loaded on the train. The Elektra docked in Halifax early this morning and is the ship I assume mine was aboard.

Woo hoo … my mini is in transit form Port hueneme (heritage leader) to Portland OR. Hopefully it doesn’t have SOS delay. Anyways I am hoping to pick it up on 7/9
I wonder how widespread is this SOS problem. You would think they would have caught these problems somewhere along production.

Not sure, I'll be watching this website closely for my car. (thanks for sharing that site)
