Dash stuck

Drove car out to grocery store and on way back noticed this in the dash.



I usually dont look at the dash since the HUD contains the speed limit also. Went into trunk, cleared out anything in the way and closed it. Went into left rear door, and passenger door and cleared out anything in way and closed both.

Message stayed right on the screen and wouldnt go away.

Got home and shut car off, and turned back on. Stayed on screen even when car was off.

Went inside and then back out about 15 minutes later to drive to work and it went away, and the odometer went to 9009 miles.

Has anyone seen anything like this before?

Yes it happened to me last week in a shopping mall. I was with a friend and she put the groceries in via the back hatch without me as I had a sciatica problem happening. I told her to shut the hatch firmly. I started the car and noticed no instrumentation on the dash other than the red symbol for the rear end of the car after I pulled out of the parking spot. I stopped and got out and tried to open the hatch without success as I guessed that a grocery bag was blocking the sensor. I couldn't open it with the key fob, tried to open the passenger doors with the fob and they wouldn't open either as I was going to reach in and pull the groceries away from the sensor. I then turned off the car and waited maybe two minutes and then got out and was able to unlock the hatch and move the groceries. The system is pretty sensitive it seems.

In my case, there was nothing blocking the hatch/doors. I was able to open and close them without issue. The dash didnt clear and left that message up the entire time.

I couldn't see anything physically near the sensor in this instance either, but I moved all the bags further into the car by about 6 inches. My dash cleared after a 2 minute shut down. I think hubby had one other instance of seeing the image you showed and it turned out to be a door slightly ajar as he drove off. He did trial and error and opened and closed all the doors and hatch and his message disappeared after doing that.

Good call. Im guessing it was the 2 minute reset that cleared it. Not too happy about that obscuring the speedometer and anything on the display there.

I agree that was quite disconcerting to have all the dash info. gone. I didn't even think to look at the HUD lol. I am just getting used to everything. I did learn when we had the C-MAX PHEV that if we got a black screen of death then shut down the car for a few minutes, and then everything was okay. A bit like rebooting the computer eh?

Never saw anything like that on mine. May be associated with the modela with the HUD

This is definitely a software issue and should be reported (as I did) to Hyundai .
I hope if more people report this than a software fix can be possibly applied.
BTW my HUD was down so NO indication of speed etc!

It appears that the dash was thinking that the HUD was up. May be a sensor failure or software bug.

I only use the HUD at night, but I believe the issue is in the dash software. Even if your door is WIDE open, you should still be able to know your speed and other pertinent info.

Anytime I email them, they tell me to take it in to service ( Waste of my time) or they tell me to call blue link.

My Kona did the same thing once or twice soon after I purchased it. The display reset on its own a few minutes after turning the car off. If it happens again, I will photograph it and report it. It smells like a software glitch.

Actually I find e-mail is more waste of time. I take it to the dealer and report it to the service dept. Although nothing is done to investigate/repair at the time, a note is put on file. The dealer I use is very helpful and have been excellent with warranty related issues so far, and I feel it is mutually beneficial to communicate any issues seeing as they are the ones who will be repairing / applying any updates in the future.
Of course not all dealers are created equal so whatever approach best works for you.
Your picture should help as this is the same symptom as what I had ,only in my case it was the drivers door (and of course the seat heaters turning on as well on a very hot day).
