My friend calls it the George Jetson car. A car salesman friend said he liked the look. Others have also reacted positively. the bottom line is that I absolutely love the car. I like the look because it compliments what the car is by design. An advanced performance and efficient machine that has great features and technology and is also a joy to drive. It's very cool to have such a strong electric motor/battery without the high price tag of a Tesla.
Completely agree with your statement! Everyone who knows me, knew that I was planning on getting the Model 3. Now, I explain my reasoning when they ask why it did not work out. For me it came down to the following list:
1.
Price - $50,000+ versus under $37,000. I did not feel comfortable paying $800 per month.
2.
Quality / Reliability - I somewhat trust Honda's engineering a little more than what Tesla currently produces, even with this somewhat new tech.
3.
Parts availability - There are three (3) versions of the Clarity which have a lot of parts in common with each other. Tesla owners wait 6+ months for parts.
4.
Nearest Service Center distance (2+ hours) - I have a local Honda dealer as well as others in close proximity.
The Clarity also has a nice interior, is roomy and has modern safety features and tech. When people see my car, they completely agree with me and think I made the right choice.
Sure, it is not a 100% electric car or will get the ladies to turn their heads - however, for my purposes about 95% of my driving will be done in all electric mode. What more can you ask for?
Honda really did a great job with the Clarity and I am trying to educate the people around me as much as I can about PHEV. I have a remote co-worker who is coming down to the office next week, who asked for a ride / demo of the vehicle.
I'm sure we'll have another believer by the end of next week...
