Wintery cold weather update at 0.96mi/kWh for the U25 BEV!

In fairness I charged at 35F and drove around -3F (cold soaked outside), so the pack voltage dropped so after adjusting for cold capacity loss it's closer to 1.34mi/kWh. That gives the U25 BEV a working 100% SoC range of 87 miles. Not too shabby...

If you keep it in the 80% SoC, then the usable range drops to 70 miles or so. For the F56 BEV, it was less impacted.

Does the U25 use CATL batteries? I think having those is a big part of why the F56 SE does so well in cold weather.

Yes to CATL, but a different cell chemistry (higher nickel %) and cell dimension. As far as I can tell the J01 and J05 are using SVOLT.

Charging the U25 on Level 2 AC I miraculously regained the lost SoC %. Just the fact of life when cell voltages drop due to cold temperatures.

Confirmed again. I charged to 100% when it was about 4F and drove when it was -4F. Voltage lowered and I immediately lost 10% SoC. Ambient temperatures don't really make a difference because the battery temp is warmer when charged. I'll remember to charge to 100% more often during the winter instead of 80% limit.

After adjusting for capacity loss, the efficiency is 1.23mi/kWh for -4F. I'm happy to report that the vehicle heats up extremely well! Just make sure to turn off A/C if you use the front defrost button. Kind of annoying that you can't tell immediately without going into the climate menu.

Maybe you could add some buttons from a recycled F56? Let's see, where would you cut into the dash? After installing the climate-control buttons, see if Bimmercode can get them to work.

Sadly the MINI OS9 platform is running Android Open Source compared to the iDrive NBT EVO with a custom Linux. Bimmercode won't work.

I guess they expect the new MINI drivers to use the voice commands. Hope they added air recirculation...I have tried in the past and it never worked. Maybe I should try something like "GoPro start recirculating".
