Looks like quite a bit of effort to install. I would like to find a Rear Cross Traffic Alert System without all the other stuff. Hopefully one that would put a small speaker in the trunk or mounted just behind the rear seat.
Where did you find just the rear cross traffic alert? I can't seem to find one.Looks like there is just the license plate version, you would only get sound and not the light indicators. But it seems simpler to install.

I will be interested to hear what you have to say about it----if positive I think I will be ordering it for my car---The BSS1-LPB model above clips on the license plate so metal bumpers (or not) are not an issue.
I have one, uninstalled, in my garage. Hope to dummy it up this weekend to see if it works acceptably this (before doing all the wire hiding/panel work). I’ll let you know and post pictures of at least the RCTA detection pattern.
Thank you for your very prompt and detailed reply---will be interested to hear your thoughts on the install and performance-----Since you ask, prelim report:
I dummied it up (resting it on rear bumper, applying power, and also connecting wires to simulate the reverse or turn signals being on). Then I parked just past an intersection to let it sense cross- or blind-spot traffic, depending on how the other cars approached.
Based on this prelim, it is good enough for me to go ahead and install. The blind spot detection seemed pretty good. I’m not sure how well it will work with the GPS active (designed to suppress blind-spot warnings below a certian speed). Rear cross traffic alerting was OK but—a big disappointment—did not react to pedestrians, only to vehicles. Also, since the license plate of the Clarity is not purely vertical, might need some shims to have it point along the road instead of slightly up in the air.
I’m planning on doing a full install this week/weekend and will let you know how it actually performs. Not quite sure yet how to get the wires coming from front of car (LED, buzzer, power) probably pushed in along the headliner, to go down past the back seat and into the trunk. Lots of pillars and options there. Hopefully the best route will be clear once the trunk liner panels are out.

Just wondered if you had the chance to do the install and your thoughts on how that went and any comments on if it's working to your satisfaction-----Thank you for your very prompt and detailed reply---will be interested to hear your thoughts on the install and performance-----
Based on what you have put together you seem pretty darn knowledgeable to me----what are the Service Express guides? have not heard that terminology before---
Thanks for all your help---hope it all works well for you as I am very interested in getting the RCTA system installed in our Clarity----
What is NUTS is that these are not a part of the standard Honda Sensing package - backup (cross-traffic) warnings have saved us from several parking lot fender benders in my wife's 2018 Odyssey - likewise for the side traffic warning lights in the front pillars next to the mirrors - come on Honda, this is just like the Infotainment system - be consistent, don't just swipe stuff from the leftover parts bin from last year's model lineup...![]()
