One bug in PlugShare - there are a lot of sites that don't have a charging rate set in the database. So if you set the minimum charging rate to anything (say 50kW), a lot of 50kW stations disappear.

Yes, this is a problem.. That's why I don't restrict the charging speed. Usually, DC fast stations at car/motorcycle dealers are 24kw.. EVgo is mostly 40kw (advertised as 50kw) and Greenlots is all 50kw. I've never seen a Greenlots DC fast charger above 50kw..

Even with my ICE car, I would plan my gas stops, especially on routes that I knew. I was a big fan of gasbuddy.com which has city/regional/state gas prices and I would pick the cheapest gas stations. For example, when I drove from Central Florida to Houston, I would always stop at specific gas stations. The price difference often was significant. Even locally, I would always fill up my car or truck at Costco whenever possible as Costco is usually 20 to 30 cents per gallon cheaper than the rest of the stations in the area. As someone who usually drives 35k to 40k miles per year, it makes a huge difference.

I never thought about where to fill up an ICE care until once, years ago, I found myself about 20 miles outside of Casper, Wyoming -- where there's basically nothing but sagebrush -- with my "Empty" warning light flashing and wondering if I'd make it to town. I barely did, but became much more conscious of where I was and the likelihood of being able to fill up, at least on unfamiliar routes -- and pretty much never let my gas tank drop below 1/4 full. An EV does take a little more planning, but I'm actually looking forward to my first road trip in August. I already have charging options mostly figured out, lol.

I asked Plugshare support a while back if they could add a filtering tier at,
say, 20 kW, so you could drop out the wheezy little dealership chargers and
just see the genuine "50 kW" rated ones. And they did mention that they
don"t even have power figures for many of them in the database -- which
is *not* what the notes for the locations say, it's a different internal field
that someone has to populate.
