I think that the trouble with the Canadian trims. I just looked at the US trims, and they get more tech as they go up. SE is basic, SEL adds some nice features, and Limited gets it all. I think I've commented before, it would be nice if they did maybe 2 optional packages, one for tech and one for "comfort" maybe? We could speculate where to draw the lines but it doesn't matter, the trims available are how they will ship to Canada. Here's hoping the price isn't too bad on the ultimate package.
 
I did some investigating of UK prices vs Canadian prices on some Hyundai Cars to try and get an idea of what kind of price we could see in Canada. It's interesting because the ICE and even hybrid models are around 5% more nominally in Canada. However the full EV Kona and Ioniq are 30-60% more in Canada. I didn't get into the weeds of exactly what is available at each trim level but I'll put a few numbers here. I do wonder what about the full EVs are making the price increase that much more. Are UK prices displayed with incentives already taken off the top, like they already add VAT? Hopefully it doesn't hold for the Ioniq5 or it will be much too expensive for the Canadian market IMO. Really it's just fun to speculate to pass the time.

British Pounds vs Canadian $$ means that Canadian prices are the same or cheaper. Unless I'm missing something here. Canadian prices and options have historically fared well as compared to European and American choices.

Yes, I get that in Canada we are paying less money for the cars (UK prices have 20% VAT baked in too). My point is look at ICE cars vs EV cars. Nominally, ICE cars are similar dollar but the EV cars are way more in Canada (signalling a dollar that's closer in value to UK) I'm wondering how the Ioniq 5 will fall in comparison to these vehicles.

Interesting they were ok with the glove box. Having never seen the drawer, they didn't know what they were missing. Hyundai executives were probably like ... YES ...we got "Straight Poops" onboard. Their term not mine but between diaper changes they could have watched the Hyundai release video so they know what was advertised. They were respectful with their opinions and humorous as always.

Ya, what's the deal with dropping the drawer-type glove box? Yet another cool (and useful) feature gone.

I was just checking a the pre-order page for first time in a while and noticed a couple things I hadn't before. There's a notice now of deliveries being Winter 2022 which I believe is new information and already indicates a delay. The list of features also seems to be a bit light on detail but the features shown in the Straight Pipes video of the Canadian car do not appear in the list, notably the 360° camera. And features shown in the Hyundai launch videos also seem to be missing including the auto-parking the the drawer-type glove box and the sliding centre console. In short there's a lot of contradictory and fractured information floating around out there and I am having a lot of trouble even understanding exactly what I "pre-ordered".

Delays could be attributed to Hyundai out sourcing more parts than they used to, including motors, batteries and chips which are getting harder to supply due to demand. Also the pending Huyndai strike vote looming next week:

As far as vehicle equipped , there is that little disclaimer (below the pictures): "specifications, equipment and options are subject to change without notice"

My point is don't put out fancy videos and press junkets that show fancy stuff that you aren't going to get even in the top trim.

Totally agree. I think"surround view camera" is listed on the ultimate package which implies a 360 camera to me. I looked at the page this afternoon too. I wonder if the winter 2022 date is just posted for those ordering now, as opposed to those that have already laid down a deposit for a fall 2021 arrival.
 
You're right. I missed the 360 view notation. And I admire your optimism regarding the delivery dates... though I don't share it. ;)

Haha you're probabaly right. I'm eager to replace a 2011 Subaru Outback that is showing some wear and tear. I would be wise to be patient though.

I hope you're right Bernie. My car was stolen 2-3 months ago and now I'm using the KIA Soul EV i bought to my wife while waiting for my IONIQ 5. I hope the wait will not be too long. The nice side of this is that I'm saving money with only one car.
 
Do you think Hyundai is being coy with its Winter 2022 delivery revision? Does that mean January, February, March 2022 or December 2022? ;)

Wouldn't put it past them.

Now says "Estimated launch date: Early 2022.".... I hope that's for those who preorder now but the "Estimated launch date" part suggests otherwise :(

Funny, they switched the phrasing just after my comment. It's a moving target, for sure.
 
I would sincerely hope that someone who ordered today would not get the same estimated date as someone who ordered 2 months ago
