Battery Recall for Canadian Kona Owners

I'm awaiting word on the battery replacement but have a question for the group.

Our maintenance schedule calls for a coolant flush and replacement around the three year mark ( if memory serves). If our batteries are replaced would that reset the clock on that step? Is the coolant and coolant loop an integral part of the battery pack? Would a coolant refresh be part of the replacement?
It's a pricey maintenance step and it would be nice if it was.
I believe they will only top off the coolant as required (after reading the battery replacement procedure info listed previous on this forum) so the answer is no as to resetting the maintenance schedule. Your 19 model will be an essentially cheap coolant replacement cost of coolant (water based green) compared to the 21 model year (blue special mixture) which I will be requiring at 60,000km.;)

My 2019 Limited has BLUE coolant.

Pretty much anytime they drain the coolant it should get replaced. The coolant will indeed be drained for the battery swap. My blue low conductivity coolant was replaced when my motor was swapped at 17,000km. It was detailed service part on my motor swap invoice. Hyundai calls for a routine coolant swap at 60,000km and as far as I am concerned my next swap is not due until 77,000km. I currently sitting at 40K and am hoping the new battery shows up before then. If not and depending how much my dealer wants for a 3 gallon coolant change I might invest in a scan tool that has bidirectional control of the 2 electric water pumps and do the swap myself.
 
Just wondering if any Canadians have had any word directly from Hyundai about battery replacement timing?

Has anyone gotten their $250 card yet?

* Finally got through to Hyundai Customer Service. "...no solution. We're working on it."

If you do, I hope that the relevant CAN commands can be reverse-engineered out of that so
everyone with custom-PID-capable tools can run their own pumps too.

I have a 2019 Preferred built in late 2018 ... No news whatsoever to this day. Last time I went to dealership was for summer tire swap in early May and "no news" at that time. I didn't even bother to go back for the 250$ card which, to this day, I don't think anyone has gotten anyway.

Apparently June was when replacments were supposed to start based on feedback from the main Facebook group for Kona EVs in Quebec (4-5k members) but I have yet to see once person reporting swap of battery being done for the recall.

I have the Ultimate same build dates, and same results, but I did ask for $250 gift card thru dealer, don't know if I will ever see it.
 
My EV systems warning light just came on with the on screen prompt to bring it in for service. :(
It's never happened before. Feels like it's going to be serious. Tell me I'm wrong or is this the BMS telling me that the battery is pooched?

Maybe, if the car won't let go in any gear except neutral the BMS has probably failed its check routine and it could suggest there is a problem with the battery. You will need to get towed to your dealer and they will read the codes. If its a BMS fault code P1AA600 they really should replace the battery but its possible they will just re flash your BMS software to clear the code and call it a day.

It's still operable. 3 subsequent starts have all thrown the code but the car drives okay.

Went to the dealership. They pulled the code and it has something to do with the coolant system but they couldn't figure it out. They tell me they're consulting with Corporate Engineering and will get back to me. I'm supposed to keep driving with the "check EV system" warning light on. Also, they've still heard nothing about batteries. I told him that American cars are starting to get appointments for the battery swap and he rolled his eyes and said "Ya, Americans always get things first " :(

I just wanted to add my experience here.
On May 3, we had the "check EV system" on our Kona EV 2021. it has only about 4000 KM
But mine is dead, the car won't start. and it has since been parked at Hyundai st-Jérôme (Quebec) pending a new battery.
We are extremely surprised because the vehicle is not part of the recall.
Super sad and confidence with Hyundai is at its lowest.
 
Sounds like your BMS software flagged your battery as faulty. That's bad luck for sure. You know if the previous recall had not happened I'm sure we might chalk it up to a battery glitch but it's hard not to see a continuation of the pattern spreading out into "non-recalled" model years.

"We are in the process of finalizing the date for the battery replacement. You will be contacted as soon as possible for an exact date of your battery replacement."
Based on previous calls it sounds like they are coordinating battery availability and dealership logistics.
We'll see, but this is the first acknowledgment I've received that the battery will in fact be replaced.
