Well, since I started the thread about battery capacity reports for gathering trend data for long term warranty analysis (planned a spreadsheet with member reports for trend monitoring and note any deviations from standard) - I think I should have dug in more here. We know the data is available over the OBDII interface, it is the decoding of the data stream and proper scaling that we do not have. There is a python module for doing this and the Panda mentioned earlier allows unfiltered access to most of the buss. Some cars report SOC info on PID 0x5B of mode 1, but we want the capacity report and much more. I am guessing that no one has started digging through the Panda streams yet on this thread? If the AP200 supported us then for the price it is the best deal. However, one of the things I have wanted what a way to display the data on our Infotainment system.... The only way I see that happening is with something open source. However getting the definitions of the non-standard PIDs is the holy grail for aftermarket scantools and why this is so hard. The good thing is that if we are just looking at a few variables, like battery capacity - we can get the real value from a Honda test, then use that to data mine the available stream. comma.ai has a lot of tools that although not for this purpose specifically will suffice. All it takes is time and effort.
@MrFixit is monitoring the entry level device that would be the simplest and cheapest solution if they ever added the functionality.
For now it seams (based on my reading) that we have the entry level around $50 that doesn't work but the manufacturer says firmware is coming, to the one ten times the price that works. These options give us a lot of tools for self diagnosing and working on our own vehicles, or at least knowing a lot more before we go in so that our "dealer experiences" may be more informed. We have all seen the questions pop up on this forum where these tools would be a benefit, calm fears, or at least prepare us for the next step. Most of our cars are under warranty - so there is that. But the HV battery warranty is the big unknown and one of the most costly items on our car. It is VERY obvious that Honda doesn't want to make this information readily available (the warranty threshold, full failure they set a DTC and turn an idiot light on). If you do not "ask" for this report - dealers don't do it...
I'm going the Panda route and going to try to get this stuff sniffed out. If anyone in the maintenance sector ever gets whiff of the PID interpolative value and address for this data - please pass it on! As far as anything short of the $500 mark, the Panda I think is my best hope. It also would allow me to share the software here, and everyone just get a $100 plug in Dongle that "sticks it to the man!" (Honda)!
If I ever make progress I will report it back here. If there are any python gurus out there I may need some GUI coding help for the android app to display this on the Infotainment console via a widget. CL I have, but GUI's are out of my repertoire...
Cheers,
