That article opens with, "EV battery fast charging is essential to making electric vehicles more competitive, but charging speed is constrained by battery degradation." Do the ElectronicDesign experts claim that battery degradation could be eliminated completely? (I didn't download the article to examine its conclusion.)

On InsideEVs' forums, it's only the owners of the oldest and furthest-driven EVs who report significant battery degradation. Anecdotally, despite always fully charging my MINI with its NMC Li-Ion battery to 100%, I've experienced no degradation in 6 years/35K miles. MINI BEV owners with multiples of the miles I've driven report the same.

Chinese companies are now reporting incredibly fast battery charging speeds. I've wondered if those charging speeds result in unreasonable battery degradation.
 
I can’t vouch for magazine articles. But Electrionic Design has been a useful source with more technical than ‘advocacy’.

When I want a deep dive, I use SAE or subject specific publications but that can get expen$ive real quick.

The article reference showed up in my e-mail and I thought to share it. Battery technology has advanced so fast, I know I’ve lagged behind. Use as you wish.

About “battery degradation,” my 2019 NCA chemistry battery has been superseded buy 9 years of battery technology both chemically, mechanically, and management. I’m reasonably confident that the more recent builds are much longer lasting than the ‘snapshot’ in time of my battery.
