Not the answer, but only part of it. I don't think there will be one answer. After all, it took more than one thing to get us into this mess.
 
Yup. We all have our own set of reasons for choosing to drive an EV, and MINI SE owners most likely use a subset of those reasons. As mentioned before, many of us drive it because it's a MINI first, with the bonus of it spewing zero local emissions and flaunting that joyful electric torque.
 
Reminds me of Chris Bangle's presentation a long time ago when the world was 4:3 potato quality. Anyone know which car brand he was referencing at 0:58?

Chris Bangle's lips don't close to start the "M" sound. Looks more natural to say Fiat but who knows?!
 
Sure there is coal used in power generation. In my area I get around 30-40% renewable energy. Some people have 100%. This cannot be said for any ICE propulsion vehicle. Plus I’ve never seen a power plant purposely disable their emission control system to purposely “roll coal” like is popular with diesel pickup truck drivers in my area. Plus there’s the efficiency on EVs and power plants. ICE cannot dream of coming close. So much is lost to heat in the engine. EVs are far cleaner in all situations. Batteries are recyclable. There are plenty of facilities setup to recover a high percentage of the materials in them. They are too valuable not to. The only problem is the batteries are lasting longer than predicted.

IMG_0841.webp 1800 miles driven in 8 days with the Model Y. Many people said we would get stuck with a dead battery…. Returning the Y the guy at the rental return was shocked there was no damage on the car as he said everything comes back with damage from the highlands that tourists rent. Actually supercharged more than I expect and it was generally the cheapest

What was interesting was the only gas station in the town we stayed didn’t take cash or foreign credit cards. Neither did the place 18 miles away… so lots of people were having to ask locals to exchange cash for them using a local CC. I mostly charged over night on Type 2 or hit up supercharger to get a decent SOC then plug in over night.

This dispenser on Isle of Skye was perhaps the most beautiful place I’ve ever charged at. Skye was the one I was a bit concerned about but the mondo range of the LR two days into the trip had me calmed down. We left out cottage at 92% drove 80 miles to Skye in cold temps and rain got there with 68% SOC. Plugged in at breakfast and went back to 92% left Skye and got home with 26%… no issues no stress
Also tons of SEs in Edinburgh, I lost count

Outstanding! I don’t understand people that ask about being stranded with a dead battery. I guess they just need to experience an EV. Even with my SE I never even think about it. The only thing I can think of is maybe these people a frequently run out of gas or something.
 
I can see that happening to people who don’t own and EV though. You are given only basic info on charging at hertz and the local public charging network in Scotland requires an RFID card for dispensers that aren’t linked to webpay. Also cellphone service is spotty in most areas so that makes it harder and more prudent to get the rfid id card. I got the card as we were passing near to the their offices.

We did encounter some other people with EV rentals. One was at the supercharger in Inverness where they couldn’t figure out how to charge. I asked where they were going and they said Skye… I knew that the town centre dispensers had been out there for ages according to PlugShare. I got them setup on PlugShare and mentioned which ones were working as I had done some research.

this is was 3rd EV rental and second in the UK. As i told some friends had the y been ICE it would have been in the prestige section at 4x the rental price

I just replaced my S Clubman with an F-150 Lightning after waiting for it for two years, so now I'm also in an all-EV family (we need a truck). I haven't had a chance to learn anything about the F-150 yet, but I can already tell, just from the drive home, there are some major differences between the cockpit experience of the SE versus the Lightning. Initial reaction is the SE features are more refined, and a simpler user experience. The driving responsiveness of the Lightning is pretty close to the SE, though, far exceeding any ICE vehicle. But I'm not surprised there is a different feeling between a "hot hatch" and a truck.

My wife's M3 does in construction zones. There's a NHTSBA investigation about the phantom braking. I want her to sell it but she likes it too much (not the phantom braking!).
