Took delivery of my Rav4P on Saturday, first few charges were showing about 36-37 miles EV range, today started the same but using the trip odo I logged 52.2 miles before the car switched to HV. One thing I did different was to use EV/Sport around town, and EV/ECO on the highway. Seemed to work, as counterintuitive as using Sport in EV might be. I'll endeavor to replicate this result.

When I picked my car up about 6 weeks ago I think the EV range on a full charge was showing about 32 miles. Now it's up to 49 miles. Drive conservatively and it'll go up over time.

During the Summer with the AC running, I was getting right at 42 mp charge. Now, with the cooler weather and no AC, I have gotten a true 56 miles on all EV. This was about half highway driving 65-75. I did not restrict my usual non=conservative driving habits but seem to have unconsciously tamed own just a bit. I amamazed at the 55 EV miles.

It will increase over time if you drive conservatively or at least moderately conservative. My range is up to 51 miles on a full charge.
This is more of a question than a reply to a previous post.
I live in MN and am considering buying a Rav 4 Prime in California, then driving it back home. First, is it worth it? Is that something you would do to own this vehicle? Or would I be better off buying a Rav 4 Hybrid? No tax incentive for the hybrid, but there is for the prime.
Secondly, can you drive in full electric mode on the highway at highway speeds? And for how long? Can you drive 42 miles on the highway, at 65 MPH, in electric mode?
Thirdly, I did recently talk to a dealership in CA and they said they were getting 20k above MSRP for the Rav 4 prime. Anyone experience this price hike?
Lastly, should I consider going east for a Rav 4 prime? Do they sell them on the Atlantic coast?

I like my all electric better than the PHEV Prime (I wouldn't like a hybrid that wasn't a plug in). The Rav4 is a nice car but I'm not wild about it, it fits a need of mostly EV around town but with the ability to go hybrid for forays into areas will little or no charger presence.
Some are selling for more than MSRP...ours was at MSRP here in NY. And, yes, they are sold on the east coast (bought ours early this fall in the NYC suburbs).
What surprises me is that with moderately conservative driving, I get far fewer m/kwh than in our EV Kona. And, the 40-45 mile EV range I've found to be minimal....and we're retired, don't do long drives most days, but can fairly quickly put on 40-60 miles in a day. So we get into HV mode and are recharging frequently at our AC Level 2 charger at home. Can't tell you if you'll get a full 40-45 miles at 65+mph, probably not would be my suspicion.
Not sure I'd drive from CA to MN, but then I don't like more than 4-7 hour drives.

I still own it and I am loving it every day but there comes a time that I would like to trade it in for a tesla model y to have full EV because it be close to a tesla price point if you will buy the top prime model, but to a have a choice to drive it between gas and EV mode that the tesla doesn’t have the prime is unbeatable ,and this is the only vehicle on this class that has 42 miles of EV range that can drive on a highway speed up to 83 miles per hour, but don’t count that you will have 42 miles every day if you drive it on a high way. Then Yes it is worth it at lease for my own point of view.
Yes some dealership do charge 2k above MSRP because this Car is consider as a unicorn, but some dealership may not charge 2k above MSRP like Longo Toyota in EL Monte CA this is one of the biggest Toyota dealership in CA.
Lastly you can’t go wrong buying Rav4 Prime, a lot of people want to own one ,for the reason that I have mention before. Hope this helped

Hello Scott - I have a Prime and love it. As long as you're charged, driving in EV mode on the freeway is a snap. Actually, in "Normal" mode it will automatically select EV or HV for you, depending on your charge level. The West Coast dealerships I contacted were charging $15k over MSRP. I did a google search and found a dealership near Boston that sold one to me for MSRP (hard to believe I felt I'd done a great deal by "only" paying full price). I considered flying to Boston and driving it home, but decided to have it shipped instead. Putting the deal together was time consuming and somewhat complicated, but I'd do it again.
BTW, we also have a Kona Electric, but bought the Prime because we found the range anxiety and long charging stops on long distance trips (30 to 60 minutes, usually) exhausting. In our metro area the Kona is fantastic. The combination of Kona/Prime is about perfect. If you buy the vehicle in California, I believe you will be charged California taxes on the sale if you take possession within the state. If you have them ship the vehicle to you, then I believe you do not pay California taxes on the sale.
From what I've read, the PHEV is peppier then the regular hybrid, and is worth the extra cost.

I had a Kona EV and now I have a Prime after Hyundai bought back my Kona. I love(d) both cars but agree it is nice not to stop for long charging on long trips, which is why I didn't stick with a full EV. The Prime gives me everything I want for now and in a few years when solid state batteries improve, I can't wait to go full EV again.

Scott I recommend shopping around a bit. I bought my Prime near Erie, PA for MSRP. Why not buy there and drive home? That has to be closer than California, and you can save yourself the ridiculous MSRP markups. You can drive full highway speeds in EV mode no problem, I've gone 80 mph in EV mode without any issues. You will not get 45 miles EV on the highway, more like 30-40 probably.
Lots of us Kona/Prime combo owners out there. OP with his Tesla has a similar experience. For OP, if CA dealers are so much above MSRP, do shop around...PA, NY, OH.....I'll be you find one at MSRP, just jump on it if you do. Either drive it home or ship it.

BTW, I don't have an iPhone, so I don't know why this says I'm sending from one (I'm using my PC). As an EV owner in addition to my Prime, I'm well aware of the many factors that can affect range. Speed, temperature (a BIG factor), terrain (are you driving hills?). I live in Salt Lake City. In the metro area, I easily get more than 40 EV miles. In town, I almost never need the gas engine as primary power source.

I got my RAV4P in July 2020 and have burned only about 8 gals of gas since, getting an average of 50 miles (with AC) on a full charge. I am not a conservative driver and like to drive above the speed limit where possible and safe. About a quarter of my driving is on the freeway. It has awesome acceleration and can easily zip around town.
I love my Prime and would not get an EV for the amount of driving that I do. I could not justify paying such a premium for getting 200+ miles EV range when I don’t ever need that kind of range. With today’s cost of technology, about a third of the cost of EVs is for the batteries. Some people are paying for long range capability that they don’t really need, except maybe for a few times a year. That’s where the Prime makes a lot of sense, using EV most of the time and never getting range anxiety on long trips.

Scott... if you are still looking, there are dealers in MN that will sell for MSRP. I fly my boss to Detroit Lakes, MN during the summer and I spoke with the closest dealer to DL and they will sell you a Prime for MSRP... but you will have to wait a while. In my search for a Prime (I really would have like a Prius Prime if they could increase the battery to 50 miles.... but that is another conversation... lol) I have talked to dealers that charge anywhere from $2k to $20k for the RAV4 Primes. Like most frugal folks I cannot believe people are actually paying those kinds of prices... it completely destroys the whole bottom line on economy. I did wind up paying $2k over MSRP for my wife's XSE, but there were a couple of mitigating factors..., the dealer just happened to have one being delivered in the next 2 weeks and they gave me an amount for my CRV Hybrid trade in that was quite high (the used car market is nuts if you have not been paying attention). They also delivered the car from out of state to my Utah home.
We live in Vegas and in Cedar Hills, UT and have been shopping for a Prime for my wife. We have had 3 Prius's, a Camry Hybrid, 2 Chevy Volt's, a CRV Hybrid, and now have a Chevy Bolt and our new Prime. My wife was not "ready" for the jump to full EV as she drives back and forth between Vegas and Northern Utah at least twice a month. I have driven my Bolt on that trip and I did not find it excessively painful..., but I love playing with toys (which is why I have been a pilot for 58 years now). There are pure EV's that have come out recently or are due in the next few months that will dramatically reduce the charge time on long trips as they have much faster charge rates (equal to the wonderful but too expensive Tesla's).... but my wife was still not ready... and my personal opinion is that for most people a PHEV is probably the best technology available today. This will change as the charging infrastructure increases, charging times decrease, and battery technology improves.
As we have only had the Prime since Monday, I do not know how it will do when running in pure hybrid mode, but I rented a non-hybrid RAV4 in November and after driving it from Vegas to Carlsbad, CA to Bakersfield, CA and then back to Vegas I was quite surprised to have averaged 38 miles per gallon. So I have high hopes for the efficiency of the RAV on my wife's interstate drives.
