28% more expensive to plug in than gas up

So buy a level-2 charger. The payback period would probably be only a little more than your lifetime . . .

Yeah :\

I once called our local power company (here in eastern Kansas) to ask if they had a off-peak or night-time rate. The woman I talked to didn't even know what I was talking about. *Sigh*

I'd rather have your cheap default rates than these insane ones with "off peak" meaning, "sleeping" hours :P

I pay 21c -> 28c right now (43c if I go over 400% baseline usage) per kwh and switching to TOU would mean 12c cheapest but only when I'm asleep, and 20c-33c the rest of the day/night. So sure I might save a buck charging, but I'll be paying it out during the rest of the waking day. Its absolutely ridiculous there is no competition..

I m in NJ and regular gas by me is around under $2 for most places. My electric rate is like ~15 cents. So driving with ICE is cheaper by a hair. I still drive mainly in EV since I hate the way the engine sound when it kicks in HV mode.

This is just one symptom of being on the bleeding edge of technology. Those of you from regions where this is more common have less pain, but every Clarity owner is basically a member of a beta-test group. I just read a post from someone who ended up driving 200 miles to find a Honda dealer who could spell C-l-a-r-i-t-y.

Yup. You Clarity PHEV drivers (and bully for you!) are early adopters... which means you need to know a lot more about your car and how it operates than do those who drive gasmobiles. If I had a nickel for every comment I've read from a plug-in EV car buyer who said he knew more about the car at the time of purchase than the salesman he bought it from...

I have had my car for several months. I find a full charge to give me almost exactly the same distance as a gallon of gas. The distance is very close, although gas wins by a mile or 2.

With my watt-o-meter it takes at least 16kwhr to go from 0 to full. It's actually a little more, but let's round down.

San Diego power prices just jumped to 25 cents per kWh. 24 with a plan. Gas is $3.13 today. So, 16*.25/3.13 is 1.28.

28% more to plug in.

Yes, many have free work charging, ev is a quieter ride , less pollution , etc.

But for people in the region, it's a rich man's luxury to jack up their commuting costs almost 30%.

So the Government jacks up the price of power to subsidize renewable energy , but removes the economic incentive to drive an ev by a staggering amount, 30%.

So if money is tight, Clarity owners in the region will not bother to plug in. It is nice to have the option, though.
Please don't forget you got a at least a $7500 rebate (with state incentives it could be 10K) to use EV- so at least some of that should be factored into cost equations.

Isn't there a timed charge feature in the car and in the HondaLink app that you could use with a level-1 charger?

(I feel guilty posting this since I just complained in another post about people who provide information on topics they don't know, and here I am doing exactly that. I have never used the scheduled-charge feature.)

Yes, it can be set up to start or stop at certain times, or start immediately when the EVSE plugs into the car.
You can do it from the drivers dash area (which I find easier) or from the app.

Yep with all the incentives, I paid the same or even less than something like an Accord, and my Clarity has the option for electric and heated seats standard ;D

The 7500 dollars gets factored into the price of the actual vehicle for most people.
I switched to the TOU 5 (I think thats it) plan and it made an immediate and dramatic difference. The problem with SDGE is that they give you a "baseline" of something insane like 400 kw. You charge 23/24 cents a kw/h up to that baseline. Then your rates double. In the summertime we were paying 500 dollars a month. This is for a townhome in San Diego where we NEVER run the AC because....San Diego.
Electricity is only going to get more expensive for everyone as we have learned here in Cali....there is nothing "cheap" or "renewable" about cheap renewable energy. Nothing.
