2027 Chevy Bolt

Chevy dealers are taking orders now, for "a limited time" as they plan to sell out.

If you want one, go get it!

If the refreshed Bolt is just a placeholder - and a limited-availability placeholder, at that - when do they expect to release their next gen of "affordable" EVs - 2027? 2030?

Appreciate GM bringing back this very popular offering.

Probably the best value for the dollar car now available on the market - absolutely the best value EV vehicle sold in the USA currently.

These are not going to last long before being sold out.

, bigger battery, range,
More details given in this article from an actual test drive in Montreal ie: more efficient X76 209 HP motor, 150 kW peak charging (short duration - "Initial charging is very rapid, and hits 150 kilowatts by 10% State of Charge. But by 40% or 50%, it starts to slow down considerably"), Battery chemistry LPF 68 kWh (65 useable) - small buffer, range ~422km, some more details on the interior and pricing.
Definitely a major improvement from the previous models and at a value price.

Is GM saying they're prepared to lose money on the new Bolt only as long as they get good press for selling a BEV for under $30K?
The new book on the Chevrolet Bolt published last week includes details of the eight steps that GM implemented to make the 2027 Bolt profitable. (It also has a chapter speculating on what comes next.)

the eight steps that GM implemented to make the 2027 Bolt profitable
If, indeed, GM can produce the new Bolt at a profit, the "for a limited time" availability doesn't make sense to me unless it's simply to drum up early demand. Every vehicle is available for a limited time because it is eventually replaced by a new model or eliminated due to poor sales. I'm guessing GM has to find out if this well-priced experiment is successful before deciding how and when the new Bolt's availability will end.

When competitively priced vehicles like the Bolt are made and fill a need - the customer is the winner.

Hopefully GM's gets a win for filling this customer need.

Have nothing but good things to say about car manufacturers who bring cutting edge technology to people in a well thought out affordable packages.

From what a gather the 2027 Bolt is a stopgap measure: Chevy doesn't have the "next-gen" replacement vehicle ready so they've refreshed the old model and released it in limited quantities as a "placeholder" to keep the market segment open.

GM has revealed what will limit the availability of the 2027 Bolt and it doesn't appear to have any relation to the popularity or sales of the $30K BEV. In 18 months, the Kansas factory where the Bolt is built will switch over to build a gas-powered Buick crossover.

It will be interesting to see how well these units sell - I personally am a big fan.

Do realize the EV's have begun to lose sales after all the incentives have been removed. It will give a truer picture of the appetite of the consumer for EV's now that their sales are not being propped up by artificial incentives.

Most EV's are not selling very well and it is completely understandable why GM wants to switch production to vehicles that the customer wants to buy. I own a NIRO PHEV (a perfect vehicle for us) and am interested in a small EV like a Bolt but realize most others would not be interested.

At the bottom of the previous post, GM provided an update on the new Bolt that doesn't change anything:

Update 7 p.m.: GM officials confirmed the move to InsideEVs. "When we revealed Bolt in October, we said it'd be a limited-run model, which we are bringing back due to strong customer demand," a Chevrolet spokesperson said. "We also said it would account for the majority of EV volume for Chevrolet in 2026, alongside the Chevrolet Equinox EV. We reiterate that today."

So GM is, indeed, planning to end the Bolt no matter how strong customer demand and resulting sales volume proves to be. Mary Barra's no dummy; this could still be a marketing strategy.
