Five minutes ago, I saw my first iX3 on the road; it was Brooklyn Grey. Any SUV is too big for me. I'm more interested in BMW's i3 sedan and I'm surprised that's not the new BMW you would choose.

If we get an i3, it would be the Clarity PHEV leaving our garage, never our beloved MINI. However, I'm sort of worried the i3 would suffer the same fate as our Clarity, always waiting for the rare day when my wife and I can't both have the MINI, which is always our first choice.

I placed an order for an i3 Neue Klasse and we are keeping the Mini. No way will my wife part with it !
You lucky your wife is driving EV my wife In almost 11 years I own i3 and SE never even try once to take EV for ride as she is good driver and replace her Subaru with second any EV is not an option .We drive only about 10000-12000 miles a year .Coming Saturday I’m going to see ix3 /50 how I feel a car and also depending how my SE will sell as dealer price for it as trade is $10000 which I can’t accept for this kind of money I put SE in a backyard and make a dog house or my cat lives in it.

You don't want to wait a few months to get a second i3?

Your test-drive in the iX3 will give you an idea what the smaller i3 will be like. You probably won't notice the iX3's inferior aerodynamics and range.

The stretched (and probably heavier) Chinese version of the i3 just went an impressive 753 miles on a single charge. However, it wasn't revealed how slow the i3 was driven. At 25 mph, that drive would require an exasperating 30 hours to complete.

On this run, the Chinese-market, long-wheelbase (118.3 inches) i3 achieved 7.1 miles per kWh. I rarely see even 4 miles per kWh in my smaller, lighter MINI Cooper SE. I don't remember seeing any Tesla achieve as much as 5 miles per kWh. I think the i3's 7.1 is much more impressive than its range. With its smaller battery pack, I wonder if the lighter i3 40 will be even more efficient?

I'm waiting impatiently for BMW to give reviewers a regular-wheelbase (114.1 inches) i3 to see what kind of acceleration and efficiency numbers they get.
